I really like the name Emily, but on all the English speaking countries baby name lists it ranks in the top 10. I don't know any young Emilys. I know a lot that are around my age... but I don't know anyone who has recently named their daughter Emily. What do you think? Is it really that popular?
Re: Emily
It really is that popular, along with the similar Emma and Amelia.
Does it really matter if you like the name? My name (Elizabeth) is pretty common and I had classes with Elizabeth B. and Elizabeth G. and we all survived to become productive members of society!

Yes its common for our age, but my 2 year old step-sister is named Emily, so its still fairly common for the little ones. I don't think it really matters. My name is pretty unusual, Chasity, and there are 2 others at my church (quite possibly the highest amount of Chasity's ever gathered together), a Cassie and a Casey. You get used to it and move on. Do some people still get us all confused? Yes, and it's probably a little bit more annoying because they are actually different and not common versus the 3 Katies and 2 Kathy's and 3 Joanne's and 2 Linda's that everyone doesn't get mixed up. But don't worry about it. As kids grow they get their own identity so Emily A is clearly different from Emily B and so on. I'd rather hear a popular name than a horrendously unique name like Apple!
One of my girls is named Emily. We liked the name but there was meaning behind it as well. I personally only know of one other young Emily. My name is Sarah - and there is always another Sarah around. If you like it, you should use it.
btw - I can't imagine my Emily with another name. She is definitely an Emily.
Very popular in my area.
I really love the name, but have taken it off the list due to popularity.

I don't know any young Emilys.
I named one of my girls Abigail despite intense popularity and don't mind. She is an Abby through and through!
Baby #3 due September 12, 2014!
