Infertility

Those that have done acupuncture

I have a few questions about the process so if you can answer any of it I'd greatly appreciate and info. Thanks!

* Did you take it upon yourself to start going or did your RE/DR refer you to see someone?

*For those with PCOS and/or do not ovulate...did you see any change with these problems?

*How many sessions were recommended/did you go to?

*How much did your sessions cost? (I have talked with one women and she charges $80 for the 1st session, $60 for the next, but if you pay upfront for 10 sessions it's $550/$55 a session)

* Do you think you benefitted from going?

Re: Those that have done acupuncture

  • I go because I believe it gives me a feeling of control like I am doing something that can "help". There is also a lot of women who have had accu boost the success of art, or help them get preg on their own.

I do not have PCOS but I know my accu helps PCOSers. He specializes in traditional chinese med with a focus on reporductive health.

He charges $75 per treatment. I was paying $100 per with someone else without his credentials. I am also in the NY metro area so everything is expensive here.

  • I am so happy you posted this.  I was actually going to do the same thing tonight.  I also need to find someone around my area...Maryland Eastern Shore.  So if anyone knows please share.  Also, is it covered by insurance??
  • *I took it upon myself. I asked my RE about it and she said it was fine if I wanted to go

    *n/a (I don't have PCOS)

*We don't have a recommended schedule. We talked at our first meeting and took scheduling from there. I started about once a week, now I go twice a month

*$60/session. Prices vary by region and experience, so it's hard to give an average

    *Absolutely

  • * Did you take it upon yourself to start going or did your RE/DR refer you to see someone? It was actually on the advice of a few friends who had gone through IF.  My RE also has the cards for an acupuncturist in the waiting room

*For those with PCOS and/or do not ovulate...did you see any change with these problems? I don't have PCOS so I am no help there.

*How many sessions were recommended/did you go to? I go once a week for 30 minutes.

*How much did your sessions cost? $45 for 30 minutes, $75 for an hour.  This is in Boston proper so it may be cheaper elsewhere.

    * Do you think you benefitted from going? I am not sure how much it helps with my IF, but I have never been more relaxed in my life.  That alone is worth the price, and helps with this whole process.

  • I know for me insurance doesn't cover it. I have United Health Choice Plus.

I'm in WI right now, but I bet if I were home in Chicago it would cost more, so I'm looking to take advantage of the lower price while up here.

  • * Did you take it upon yourself to start going or did your RE/DR refer you to see someone? I decided to start going on my own.

*For those with PCOS and/or do not ovulate...did you see any change with these problems? Yes, I started ovulating the cycle I began going. My first appointment was actually my first day of AF brought on by provera. I also started taking Met that cycle, so I'm not sure if it was acup, met, or the combination that helped.

*How many sessions were recommended/did you go to? My first 6 weeks I went once a week, I now go once every other week.

*How much did your sessions cost? Around $100, my insurance pays 90%

     * Do you think you benefitted from going?  Yes, I'm ovulating, my headaches are much better, and it gives me a chance to relax.

  • Thanks ladies! I've been leaning towards going and I've taken it upon myself to start looking into it. Even if all I get is relaxation, then I agree - that alone is worth it!

  • * Did you take it upon yourself to start going or did your RE/DR refer you to see someone? I decided to do it on my own on our two cycle break because we were moving to IVF. according to my acu, it is better to have been doing acu for about 3 months to really see a difference (if any)

*For those with PCOS and/or do not ovulate...did you see any change with these problems? N/A

*How many sessions were recommended/did you go to? The first month is 4-5 sessions (about once a week) then you go to once a month if your issues have begun to straighten out.

*How much did your sessions cost? (I have talked with one women and she charges $80 for the 1st session, $60 for the next, but if you pay upfront for 10 sessions it's $550/$55 a session) $150 for first session (2 hrs) and 85 for others. They may also recommend herbs which in my case was $15.25 a bottle

    * Do you think you benefitted from going? I liked it because I felt I was doing all I could to make our furture IVF sucessful. I went once on CD1, 4DPO & 11DPO. I got a Hail Mary BFP on 9DPO. Not sure if it was due to accu or the ten other things I tried differently this cycle. I am going to continue going because I like it and she also throws in a massage!

  • * Did you take it upon yourself to start going or did your RE/DR refer you to see someone? Took it upon myself when the bloating from the Clomid got out of control.

*For those with PCOS and/or do not ovulate...did you see any change with these problems? Can't tell it's only been a few days and am waiting to get my levels back, but it definitely helped with the bloat and side effects.

*How many sessions were recommended/did you go to?  This was an emergency session because of my pain and discomfort, but I think I'll aim for every other week.

*How much did your sessions cost? (I have talked with one women and she charges $80 for the 1st session, $60 for the next, but if you pay upfront for 10 sessions it's $550/$55 a session) NA--it was done by a friend who is a Chiropractor/Acupuncturist

    * Do you think you benefitted from going? Definitely. It made me feel better immediately. I had done it in the past to relieve headaches/sinus problems, and it even cleared up a wicked sinus infection just a few days before my wedding. It's amazing how that works.

  • *I started going on my own...we are on a break from ART and this way I feel like I'm doing something.

*I don't have PCOS and do ovulate on my own.

*She would like me to go 2x/week...I've been going 1-2x/week

*My sessions are much cheaper than what everyone else posted...initial session is $25, after that they are $15-35.  I go to community acupuncture (communityacupuncturenetwork.org)  they treat a patient every fifteen minutes and have anywhere from 3-8 patients in a large room at the same time...no clothes are removed, they use lower legs and feet, hands and forearms, and head.  (my insurance doesn't cover, but I use my FSA)

*I started in the middle of a cycle, got AF and just got AF again...I definitely feel more relaxed.  My cycle seems more regulated as well.

  • * Did you take it upon yourself to start going or did your RE/DR refer you to see someone? I decided to start going on my own.

*For those with PCOS and/or do not ovulate...did you see any change with these problems? Don't have this so can't speak to this question.

*How many sessions were recommended/did you go to? I've been having very irregular cycles for over a year now so I started going for that & because I wasn't ovulating...b/c of that my dr had me start 3x's a wk for the first two weeks & now I go 2x's a wk

*How much did your sessions cost? I go to a Chiropractor who also does accupuncture...my insurance covers up to 26 chiro visits so he does that w/me & doesn't charge me for the accupuncture...otherwise it would be $65 a session. He's amazing!!!

    * Do you think you benefitted from going? Yes, although my cycle is still not regular, it's early days & I feel as if I have more energy & overall feel a difference in my general health.

     Best of luck to you:)
