Can babies have decongestants?

Mom said we got them when we were sick. DD can't eat or sleep & is miserable. I'm calling the on call nurse.

Re: Can babies have decongestants?

  • No. Recent studies have found they may cause seizures.

  • My DS has horrible allergies. ?My pedi has given us Nasonex for limited use. ?She gives us samples. ?She said insurance is reluctant to allow their use on infants even though it is used in hospitals when needed. ?We always try the saline nasal spray for a couple days before moving to the nasonex. ?We also run the humidifier in the room all the time. ?I would call and ask your pedi what you can do. ?Good luck
  • Nope not recommended anymore, Saline drops and suction is all you can really do to help along with humidifer for sleeping.
