Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Poll: Schedules

I am just wondering how many LOs are on a schedule.

DS is waking up at 5:30 or 6:00 AM. He used to sleep until 7 AM. This all started about a week ago and we did not change anything at all! He is not on any schedule. He would just nap after being up for 2 hours, but the length of the naps vary. He would eat every 3 or 4 hours. I have Ferber's book and it talks about changing their schedules to get them to the desired sleep times. So, we tried to start a schedule today (well, the babysitter did) and I want to see if it helps or not.

Any advice/input appreciated! Thanks! [Poll]

Re: Poll: Schedules

  • Just in the past month we have been putting DD down no later than 8:30 and up for the day also no later than 8:30.  Its my first tentative step in following Ferber's advice.  Naps are all over the place - she does not nap well at daycare.

  • we've been doing this schedule for 2 months or so...  wake and eat at 8 am.  DD eats every 3 hrs.  DD is in bed by 8:30 pm.  of course, DD may wake earlier or go to bed a tad earlier, but i always feed her every 3 hrs (if she's napping, i'll only go 30 more mins).  this schedule works wonders for us!
  • When Lily was about 5.5 months we put her on a schedule that basically had her napping after two hours of awake time. This was fine, but our days were all over the map - sometimes she napped at 10 a.m., sometimes at 11 a.m. - and that made it hard to plan our day. She always went to bed around 6:15 p.m. and woke up around 5:30 a.m. (she's always been an early to bed, early to rise kinda kid).

About two or three weeks ago, we started this schedule:

    awake between 5:30 and 6 a.m. - nurse

    breakfast 7:30 a.m.

    nurse and nap 9 a.m.

    lunch noon

    nurse and nap 1:30 p.m.

    dinner 5:30 p.m.

    nurse and bed 6:30 p.m.

I think Ferber is right and a set nap/eating time is helpful. Lily is napping a lot better lately, and I'm thinking it's because her body knows what to expect. Then again, it could just be a coincidence. You just never know!

  • DS is at my parents during the day so we've been working the last few months on getting him on a day-time schedule. DH and I have been getting him on a night schedule the last month and a half. He wakes up about 6:30/7am, has an 8oz bottle at 7:30/8am, up for a bit, naps for 2-2.5hrs at about 9am. Wakes, has another 8oz bottle, plays a bit. Takes another 1hr nap about 2pm, then another 8oz bottle. I pick him up at 5:15pm and when we get home he has one more 8oz bottle for 32oz. We start his night time routine at 7:30 with bath, then music or books while in the rocking chair in his room with the lights down. Lately he's taken one more 4 oz bottle at the end of the day. He's in bed by 8pm (ish). We started Ferber 1 week ago and it's been working well (only doing night so far). Once he's down he's out till the morning. The last three nights he hasn't woken up. He's woken up and self soothed himself back to sleep, but not where we need to go in to his room.
