I have an actual parenting question tyvm - Ferber

If you used Ferber for night time wakings and bedtimes, how long until it worked for nap time to if it didn't right away? At 11.5mths DS is finally STTN and the last 2 nights he actually put himself to sleep since he didn't fall asleep nursing. BUT, the last 2 days I've tried to use Ferber for naptime and it was a big fat fail. Should I just keep trying or wait it out a little longer?

Re: I have an actual parenting question tyvm - Ferber

  • I am pretty much a failure at Ferber and naps. I only use it on our afternoon nap and give up after 20 min. Morning naps she goes down pretty easily.

I am sorry I'm not more help.?

  • We haven't done naps yet, sorry. I would like to see what other people have to say.
  • naps are taking us longer than I hoped. ?I nurse him to nap but try and get him in the crib drowsy but awake. ?He has no problems getting himself to sleep, its just the 30min nap that is doing me in. ?I bet it took about a wk longer than the nighttime ferberizing. ?Mominator, I think we started sleeptraining around the same time. ?I will say I thought my ds was going to scream forever when I put him down for his naps but surprisingly when I left the room he quieted within a minute(this after about a wk of training).

I just wish he slept longer than 30 minutes!!!?

  • Naps took a little longer for us... Did the same routine as at bedtime - let her CIO in the proper intervals for an hour.  If she was still crying at an hour, I went in, opened her shade, sang a very loud good morning song and got her (I did the shade opening/song for the benefit of her knowing that she was getting up because it was time to get up, not because she was crying - I do the same thing if she's not crying and it's time to get up).

She probably skipped like a week's worth of on-time naps, and then  she started to just do the fussing thing for a couple of weeks.  Now she naps well and sleeps well at night.  But it definitely took time and determination.
