Mrs.F

responded to your response ... oh, nevermind. I'll just ask again:

BIL and FSIL moved to Athens recently and they asked me what kinds of cool things there were to do. Since I haven't lived there in 10+ years, I'm at a loss. Help?

Re: Mrs.F

  • Oh cool!  Haha honestly the only "fun" things we did here was go downtown, go to bars & drink.  Not really anything special.  But we do go to Shokitini (sushi) pretty often with a bunch of friends.  We rent one of those private karaoke rooms & it's pretty fun.  The restaurants are pretty good downtown for the most part... Shokitini, East West Bistro & Speakeasy are our favorites.  If they like trying different kinds of beers (again with the alcohol sorry LOL) Trappeze has all the BEST beer.  Their food is pretty good too for something casual.

Honestly I'm no help either!  Kind of sad considering I've lived here for well over 2 years.

  • Yeah, I could only think of bars too, lmao. And of course, they already know all ABOUT those!!

So then I was thinking like ... the botanical gardens. And that little zoo next to the park (can't even remember what it's called, but I loved that park). And the intermural fields. But that was it. So I thought, HEY! Mrs. F might be able to help me out!

If you think of anything else, let me know.

  • Ya of course most everyone who comes to Athens knows about the bars Smile

I will let you know if I think of anything else!

  • cool, thanks!
  • I just wanted to say that I love the name Dashiell.  Athens Botanical Garden is great, and the Athens Symphony and UGA sometimes have great performances if they're into classical or jazz music. (but mostly I only know about bars and music venues...and Guthrie's chicken fingers...mmmm, that sounds good right now!)

I don't know where you are in ATL, but they opened a Guthrie's in Norcross.

My personal faves, of course, are the Grill and The Grit ... mmmm. Athens food is YUMMY!

  • Sorry to butt in, but I lived in Athens for a year while I was going to grad school.  I loved visiting the Botanical Gardens - especially with nice weather and when the flowers are blooming.  It is a great place to go for a walk, pack a picnic, or just get out of the house.  There were some outlet malls a little bit north of Athens that I used to go shopping at (Athens Mall is not the greatest) but I can't remember the exact location/town.

I too spent most of my time downtown at the bar scene - but I enjoyed walking around downtown during the day as well.  They have some pretty good restaurants and some nice boutiques/shops.
