we were thinking of going to S. padre. Obviously we would stop here and there. Wondering if that's going to make DD too fussy. Or if we should just keep the driving distance to no more than 5 hours.
When my daughter was two she was a flower girl in El Paso. I was really worried about such a long drive, but she did great! I packed her tons of activities for the road and we hardly even needed them! Surprisingly, we used them more in the hotel room then the car. My daughter is a night owl so we just left early in the morning and started our trip, she slept most of the way. You'd be surprised at how resilient your toddlers can be. But for the wedding, she refused to even walk down the aisle!

Woa! I have no idea what I did to make that happen, sorry about that. But, if she is in to music get her some headphones and let her listen to her favorite CD's. My daughter still loves that!
We drive to Colorado every summer and started doing this with the kids when they were just under a year old. It's doable with lots of toys, movies, and snacks to keep them occupied! My DH will ride in the back with them to keep them entertained as well. I'm always the one driving and I like it that way. We break the drive up over two days though so I think that definitely helps. Just be prepared to make many more stops along the way than you would normally have to do.

I have always brought my daughter's car seat as well. When she was an infant and we flew from Germany and England to Texas (I am prior military), we brought the car seat on the plane and buckled her in on the plane just as in the car. Key to flying with a little one: patience, patience, patience. You are on someone else's time and don't get to choose when you want a break like you can with your own car.
Re: Is a 10-13 hour driving vacation too much for a 2yr old?
I agree!! My LO is a great car sleeper & we have gone 3 hours but that's it.
last year we drove to Galveston and she was about 1 1/2 then and that drive wasn't so bad. On the way back.. she wasn't as content.
Just wondering those who fly.. do you take the car seat for the car rental?
Yes, we bring our car seat.?
