I am pregnant but I decided to use cloth diapers (bum genius) on our 2nd baby. Where do I start, how many do I need, what else do I need and how do I clean them?
Welcome to the dark side If you lurk around here long enough, you will learn a LOT. Also visit www.diaperpin.com.
Unless you are using disposables for the first couple of weeks/months, you are probably going to want some other types of diapers than just the BG, for the beginning. BG usually fit better on a 2-ish month baby and on up (depending on size, of course). A lot of moms like prefolds or fitteds for this newborn stage. I didn't start with cloth until Seth was 3 months, but for our next baby I plan on getting prefolds from www.greenmountaindiapers.com and a few fitteds, probably Kissaluvs.
Anyway, the standard answer is about 24 for how many BG you will need if you are only diapering one child and want to do wash every other day. Of course, this will vary depending on how much you change the baby!
To clean- just throw in the washer! You will need a CD friendly detergent to prevent build up. I use Country Save. You can buy a ton of it on Amazon for a GREAT price. We use it on all our laundry. A lot of moms here use Crunchy Clean. I haven't tried it but I plan to in the future.
Hope this helps a bit. Congratulations and good luck!
