I have a good friend who sews, but has never made diaper covers. So I have a couple of questions
How hard is it?
What all do I need?
How much does it cost? I understand different prices for different fabrics ect. but a ballpark would be nice
Where can I find a pattern? TIA I really appreciate it.
Re: Sewing Experts: Making diaper covers
How hard is it: Not hard at all if you already know how to sew.
What do you need: PUL fabric is the main thing. Most people order online (I like verybaby.com) but some Hancock's fabrics carry it now. You also will need elastic and velcro. Most people use Toughtape or Aplix brand velcro which you will probably have to order online. I use 1.5 inch wide velcro. If you want to do snaps you need a snap press which most people don't have.
How much does it cost: PUL is about 8-9$/yard. I can usually get 6 diapers out of a yard. Plus the cost of elastic and velcro.
If you want to buy a pattern I like the patterns on verybaby.com or the KCK is a one-size pattern. The KCK is only 5$, but personally I was not a huge fan of the pattern.
If you have a pocket diaper that you like, you can carefully trace it and use it as a pattern. In terms of free patterns, my fav so far of the free ones is Goodness Gracious.
