Ovarian Cyst and BC??

Hi all, Sorry if this is the wrong board to be posting this on, but you guys always give great tips and advice on here. To make a longgggg story short, I found out in October 2008 that I have a cyst on my right ovary (5cm). My doctor and I decided to put me on BC for a few months to see if that either shrinks or gets rid of it. Of course, that put a wrench on TTC for a few months, but this thing is so darn painful, I just want it to go away! I get an ultrasound in May and then appt. with my doctor after that. I am really dreading having to have surgery to remove it, but am trying to find hope out there with others having the same/similiar situation. I just started my 2nd month on BC, but this thing seems to still hurt everyday.

Re: Ovarian Cyst and BC??

  • I had one after a clomid cycle that was about 46mm and it shrank after one cycle on BCP. I am not sure if it shrank that fast because it was a clomid cyst or not. I do not have PCOS. Good Luck

  • I had a 6cm cyst from Clomid.  After one month on BCP, it shrunk to 3.4cm.  My RE suggested surgery which I was completely opposed to. I opted to do a 2nd month of BCP. This shrunk it to 1.5cm which my RE said was small enough to resume ttc. Hope the 2nd month of BCP does the trick for you, too!

I have an extensive history of ovarian cysts, some have been quite large. Thankfully, I've been able to get them all resolved with BCP and have not needed surgery (for the cysts anyway). Cyst doesn't always equal surgery. GL!

I'd call and demand an earlier ultrasound. They can grow quickly, so if it's hurting your regularly I'd really stay on top of it. If you do end up having to have surgery, it really should be a very simple, outpatient procedure. I know the word surgery sounds scary, but if you have to go that route you'll be fixed up and healed fairly soon. Either way, don't wait in pain. Get it checked again now. Hope you get some relief soon!
  • I was told that they don't grow while on BCP. Is that not true?

BCP can often slow their growth, stop the growth, or shrink them. However, BCP can also have no effect. Partly, it depends on the type of cyst. I tend to grow cysts at a rapid rate, even when on BCP. I had one double in size in a month, even while on BCP.
