I currently stay home with DS during the week and work at a salon every other Saturday/Sunday. I have an opportunity to add Friday to my every other wknd schedule. DH works Fridays so we'd have DS in daycare those days. I found a daycare we really like but we'd have to pay every Friday whether DS is there or not which I think seems very reasonable. DS has never been to daycare & I'm really excited for him to get to interact with other kids.
My question is, the Fridays that I have off should I bring him to daycare or no? It seems weird to have him there when I'm not working but a big reason we're doing this is for him to get to socialize with other kids. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks!
Re: Would like your thoughts
this exactly. It might be difficult to drop him off initially because he isn't used to it (and neither are you). But I am a firm believer in daycare - both for you and him!
I'll second this one too!
Ditto! I would love to take DS to daycare 1 day a week just so I could get stuff done around the house, grocery shopping, etc.
I know teachers at my school who send their kids to daycare during Christmas and Easter breaks because they're already paying for it. I always think that's weird -- don't they want to spend at least SOME of those breaks with their kids?
However, in your case I think there are 2 compelling reasons to send DS to daycare on all the Fridays even when you are not working:
1. more consistent for him. 2 weeks between daycare visits is a long time for an 18 month old. Going every Friday will help him get used to it and benefit from the socialization and independence more.
2. you're already with him all week, and you would probably benefit from a break 2x a month yourself.
