my vote is for option #3 (the non-existant one) I dont have a religion, I've never been baptised, and I dont go to church. However, I do believe in God, dont get me wrong. But there is always something with every religion that I dont agree with... as far as my kids go. I will no push them either way. It will be completely up to them to decide, just as my parents did with me.

I was raised in a very strict religeous home. (Southern Baptist). I followed this blindly until I was about 18 and my mom was in a serious car accident where she almost died. I got really angry and I took a year cursing God, and all religeon. Then I took some time to actually look into everything and I read a lot of different books on religeon as well as attending several churches. I ended up back at the one I started with, but I am thankful for my research because if anything, it allowed me to understand my own religeon better.

I tend to agree w/ you, but I would put that in #2 You chose do believe in that (whatever IT is) and not b/c that's what you were raised with (unless of course your parents/family is all like that, in which it'd be #1).

My family introduced me to my religion and in my 28 years I have had plenty of time to research/think out my religious life path and have chosen that this is what I believe and how I want to live my life. We actually have a sacrament based on this decision (confirmation). Would that be option #2?

I didn't vote, because neither really apply.

I was raised Christian, but when I got older I did my own research on religion. When all was said and done, I decided that Christianity was best for me.

I guess I say neither of them because they both state that you have a religion.. which i dont... but about my parents.. my dad was baptised mormon (it was a forced "you will go to church" childhood with his 4 siblings) when he turned 17 he basically told his mom (who was the pushy one) to F off... and never went again... my mom, was baptised when she was little as well. she is Baptist they went to church and she actually did for a while after she had kids and all that. (she had 2 kids by the age of 19) and then it just sort of faded... they didn't really raise us a certain way with religion at all... thats why I say #3... because I dont have a religion and my parents really had nothing to do with it. but if it will make everyone happy I'll pick #2

I was raised Christian, but when I got older I did my own research on religion. When all was said and done, I decided that Christianity was best for me.

This, but with Judaism instead. I did not just blindly follow what my parents believe, but I have ended up in the same faith as my mother anyway.

ok then pretend is says your religion or lack of religion. Basically I just meant what you believe in terms of that broad context.

Sorry, I should have made it clearer I guess. I would put this in #2 as well. You didn't choose your religion (current one) based on your family then, you chose it because you actually researched it (and others presumably) and decided it was the best fit.

haha so true now that you mention it. To me, it seemed kind of like a yes or no choice. There are only two answers - you either did or didn't choose your religious beliefs (or lack thereof) based upon your family/how you were raised or researching and choosing yourself.

I was raised as a non-denominational Christian, and as an adult, have done a lot of different research on other religions. My extended family includes both Baptist and Catholic beliefs as well. Knowing what I do about the differences in beliefs has always led me back to how I was raised.

I'm a non-denominational Christian by choice and by my upbringing.

I choose other option: My religion/spirituality is based on both. My parents raised me in a Methodist church where my grandma was my sunday school teacher and choir director. We HAD to attend each week. Then, we moved out of state, my parents opened their own business and we couldn't find a church we liked. So, no church for a few years. Then, in 8th grade I met an amazing youth pastor that invited me to his church, a Catholic church, to attend youth group. These kids became a HUGE part of my life even though I don't totally agree with Catholicism. The youth pastor just wanted to love kids and share God. I left for college and went to a Christian college (thinking I'd be a youth pastor). Now, my DH and I are non-denominational Christians because of our experience with denominational politics as well. I hope to raise our kid with a good foundation and let them choose for themselves in the end.

I chose #2 but it's sort of both. I have the same faith I was raised in, but it's not a blind "This is just what I was taught." I spent the time to figure out that yes, this is truly what I believe is right. So it is based on how I was raised, but it was also my own choosing that I believe I was raised in the true faith.

LOL ladies, I guess this was a hard poll. IMO, if you did any research about your own religion or different ones before really deciding "yes, I am X" then it would be #2, regardless of what you were told growing up. Maybe I just see it that way though.Interesting either way though!

I picked the second one, only because I'm not what my family is. They're all kind of non-denominational Christians, I am a staunch agnostic with atheistic tendencies.?

DH was raised by non-denominational Christians and Mormons, so his decision to be an atheist was absolutely influenced by them. He hates the Mormon church, and it directly led to his decision that there is no God. He reads a lot about all religions though, and his mind has never been swayed back to the church.?
