2nd Trimester

When to start on the nursery...

When are you planning on starting on the nursery? If you have already, how far along were you?

Re: When to start on the nursery...

  • We painted it this week, at 18 weeks because DH was on vacation & otherwise who knows when it will get done!

I have also bought a few decor things, I hope to do as much of it as possible during 2nd tri as I hear 3rd tri is exhausting.

  • Any day now

  • The only thing we have in the nursery is the crib and dresser.  As far as furniture goes we still need a rocker/glider.  I'm still debating the paint color, and then of course decorations/art for the room...which we haven't even begun to think about yet.  :)
  • I have a few days off from work week 22 so I plan to start cleaning and organizing the room then. Currently it's a catch all/ storage room so we have a lot of stuff to go through. We plan to paint and do the rest of the stuff on the weekends after that (before it gets too hott!)
  • I started 2 weeks ago, when the glider came in... though I haven't done much more (the room is empty, curtains are on) because I am waiting on the furniture that won't be delivered in another 3-4 weeks.

Oh yeah, we won't paint because we are renting... so I guess I have less work to do.?

  • We ordered our crib, dresser, dresser (changing one), and chair this weekend.  We'll likely "start" painting, etc. after we rearrange all the furniture in that room and the one next to it to clear it out. Probably within the next few weeks.
  • Maybe next month?? Not sure
  • I won't be able to start for probably another month.  We are finishing our basement right now, so I can't clear out our guest room (future nursery) because there's nowhere to put all that stuff right now since the basement is full of construction crap!  I'm not worried about it though.  I just tell DH that the longer we have to wait to do the baby's room, the less I will be able to help/bigger I'll be!
  • We are planning on starting ours sometime in May when the weather is nicer.  The nursery is currently my storage room, so we need to clean out the garage so I can move my crap out there.  (It's mostly holiday decorations and stuff like that).

By the way, love your pic!  Your bump is so cute....can't wait to get one of my own. Smile

  • we ordered furniture and will start to get the accessories, bedding, etc in the next few weeks. dh has to repair a wall in the room, and then we'll get the painting and setting up.
  • DH is working on it this week. He has to repair the walls before they can be painted.

  • We started doing some work in the nursery on Saturday.  We spackled/sanded the walls, and set up the changing table.  Our crib is being shipped right now, and dresser is in the process of being restored.  Crib bedding is also on its way, so once this is in, we'll paint.  We're using the bedding colors to make the final decision on paint color.  I can't wait for it to be done!

  • We've been doing things here and there for a couple of weeks. We've had our crib for over a month since my mom bought it when it was a really low price and we've had our dresser/changer for a little less than that (thanks to the hutch portion being on back order, even though we should have it this week which is a month earlier than we were told!). DH has also put up chair rail but that was a stress reliever for him when he was grieving over his grandmothers death....

Anyways, now that we know what the baby is, we'll be working more so on it. We ordered the bedding and we'll probably paint in the next 2-3 weeks. We're trying to get everything done before May since our schedules are going to be packed with family events and obligations.

  • I started just this past weekend.  I have the walls painted almost completely, I need to go back & do sheen striping, which I hope to finish this weekend!  Then I'll just have the touch-ups and the walls will be completely done!

  • We close on our house April 30 and will spend the following 2-3 weeks painting, cleaning, etc. Once the nursery is painted, and we move in (May 23ish) we will start really getting into decorating the nursery. (While we decorate the rest of the house too!)

I have already picked out the paint color, the furniture, the bedding and all the decor. It's all on a PB Kids registry which I am using just as a personal shopping list for myself. Once we move in - I just have to buy, buy, buy!

     I can't wait!

  • First we need to move into our new place which isn't for another 6 weeks or so.

There really isn't a whole lot to do in our nursery.  We are renting so we are not painting.

I have a dresser and a matching rocking chair (that I already had) in there.  I also have some teddy bears & books, and decorative storage baskets that I made.

Now we're just need the crib in there and for me to make some curtains and bedding.

  • We bought the crib and dresser over the weekend and it will be delivered in 3 weeks. So I guess I'll really start going crazy with decorating around then..so 28 or 29 weeks along. We don't need to paint.

  • pretty much as soon as we found out the sex of the baby....we started 17th week....the painting is almost complete, then we assemble the crib....woohoo..

When we let go of fear, only then we gracefully move from what was, into the miracle of what can be.
  • We are starting really late! We are still renovating and probably won't get to do the babies room until mid June.
  • luckily the room is already painted the color I wanted and we've started to collect decor.

We are doing something rather unconventional and buying *ourselves* new furniture and giving the baby our hand-me-downs, so as soon as the new stuff comes, we'll switch things out and get started.

    The DC Nest. Winers welcome.

  • I'm not overly stressed about it because the baby will be in our room for at least the first three months (our room is on a different floor of the house from the nursery).

We kind of have a lot to do -- DH is going to repaint the walls, and also add a chair rail and paneling underneath the chair rail.  And right now he's thinking he wants to build the paneling himself (he's into woodworking).  He's just now getting started on this project.  It'll probably take a month at least.  Then we'll need to paint, etc.  But we won't have any of the bedding and stuff until after my shower in June, so I'm assuming we'll wait for most of the nursery setting up until the month or so before my due date.

We need to probably go ahead and order the crib and the glider.  But the crib is only going to take 2 weeks to come in, and I really don't want it just sitting around the house until we have somewhere to put it!

  • we started looking at furniture and bought our bedding around 18/19 weeks. due to some scheduling conflicts, we just had the nursery painted yesterday. we already have the furniture and stuff which we'll put together this week, and then start decorating. my plan is to have it done by the end of april. we're having a light/ceiling fan installed too.

do whatever works for you guys- there's no right/wrong time to start.

  • we'll be ordering our furniture soon since it will take 12-14 weeks to come in :/ ?

i don't see a problem with starting early.?

  • I've had two friends in the last year have premature babies and both friends advised "DO NOT WAIT UNTIL LAST MINUTE".  We started planning our nursery at 14 weeks and I finished painting last weekend.  Still have much to do... find cupcake drawer pulls, paint changing table, have valance for window made with matching changing pad cover, hang artwork, and finish handmade vintage bicylce rim and cupcake mobile but I think it looks great!  Pics are in siggy.
  • DH was laid off earlier this month so he was able to paint and assemble all the furniture right after we had our big u/s. (Early March)

I just order some wall decal items yesterday, and we are starting to get everything around and "in it's place". We do have a TON of work to do in the closet of that room though, it runs under our staircase and needs a good cleaning and some drywall. DH will do that....eventually!

  • Our nursery is painted, which we did when we moved in. We have all the furniture and most is still in boxes because DH needs to clean his crap out of our nursery before we can set up anything. We also have to evict the dog crate to the living room.

In all honesty, we should have really started by now.

  • We just put our house on the market (I know, we're crazy). Who knows what we'll do?  Wait a couple of months and see, I guess.
