Soft Serve Ice Cream

I was just reading the "What have you given in to" post below and found out that soft serve ice cream machines supposedly harbor listeria.  I want my baby to be healthy and everything, but part of me wishes I didn't know that.  I don't know if it's possible for me to NOT have it.  It is the number 1 craving I have a pregnant woman.  Chocolate with chocolate sprinkles.  I have one like every other day.  I think I need to go get one now....

Well, that's too bad.  My kid is already at least 50% Dairy Queen ice cream...

  • I'm a crazy food nazi (zero caffeine, lunchmeat, soft cheeses, caesar dressing, cured meats, artificial sweeteners) and even I have the occasional milkshake. I actually searched once and couldn't find anything online about risks and just decided that would be my one listeria risk I would take since it didn't even seem to be an accepted rule that it was a risk.

  • Never heard to stay away from soft-serve, nor would I be able to.  I haven't stayed away from deli meat either, but I do either heat it up or make it myself at home rather than buy what's out in the lights of the deli counter at the store.....

My m/w gave me an entire sheet on Listeria and to stay away from stuff that is risky because of it, and soft-serve ice cream (machines) were not mentioned anywhere on there.

  • No way would I be able to go without soft serve!  I'll take my chances on this one!
  • I'm sorry that I was the one to burst the soft serve bubble.  I'm only telling you what I read.

I on the other hand, have read that many things are taboo while pregnant.  Well, I along with every other person I know came out just fine and our mothers didn't abide by all these rules.  I figure moderation is the key here.

I have had soft serve religiously for at least the past month once a week and so far, my DD doesn't have 4 heads or anything. (At least I don't think so). Just don't go licking the inside of the machine. Wink
