I've been feeding Conor rice cereal for a little over a week now - he loves it! I've been feeding him aprox. 2Tbs. at night between feedings - I BF. Pedi. said I could start introducing other solids as I wish. I'm just wanting to get some ideas from you guys before I take the plunge.
1. When did you start feeding cereal twice a day?
2. If you BF, do you mix cereal with BM? If not, what do you mix it with?
3. When did you introduce fruits/veggies?
4. When do you feed fruits/veggies (time of day)? Do you feed them fruits/veggies between BM/formula feedings?
5. Anything else I should know?
Thanks ladies!
Re: Moms: Solids questions
1. We started cereal a little after 5 months and around 6 months were feeding it twice a day
2. We mixed it with her formula but now I mix it with water
3. We introduced sweet potatoes next and then avacado. This was at about 2 weeks after introducing cereal because she hated rice cereal.
4. We fed them at dinner time because we both work and I wanted to feed her. Most people seem to start new solids earlier in the day like lunchtime. Here is our schedule:
7am bottle, 8am oatmeal/fruit, 10:30 bottle, 12:00 fruit/veggie, 3:00 bottle, 6:00 fruit/veggie, 7:30 bottle
Lunch was the last meal that I added
1. We only gave it once a day i the evenings Fenton never really liked it so we went straight to fruits and veggies. Now his tastes have changed and is liking cereal in the evening.
2. I FF we mix it with Formula.
3. Immediately at 6 months we started with Veggies 4. Fruit in the morning 2 hours after morning bottle Veggie 2 hours after mid morning bottle then he has an afternoon bottle rice cereal 2 hours after his afternoon bottle. Bedtime bottle.
5. Use the 3 day rule to eliminate food allergies. Check out wholesomebabyfood.com for advice on what to introduce at what age.
1. We started solids twice a day by about 6 months.
2. We mixed it with formula
3. Introduced avocado a little before 5 months, then started introducing all veggies and fruits after that (using the 3-5 day rule).
4. When we did one feeding a day, it was 5:30/6pm. DH and I both work and we wanted to be the ones to feed her. Now she has solids around 10:30 and 5:30. I see a third meal in the very near future...
We started rice on 3/9 and did rice for about a week once a day.
We added oatmeal the next week for about 5 days and started to do rice at one time and oatmeal at another, most days. Some would only get one feeding. Morning/lunch and then after our dinner time.
We added sweet potato this weekend, about a Tablespoon. She has had sweet potato twice now. So our plan is oatmeal/rice in the morning, then a veggie at night. But we will introduce the veggie (and any new food) on the weekend so we can watch her all day to make sure she isn't allergic.
I think carrots are next
1. We started doing two meals a day around 6 months - usually breakfast and dinner. We added lunch at about 7.5 months.
2. We mixed the cereal with BM at first, but I stopped pumping and went full formula at 6 months so we mixed it with the formula after that. I tried it with water once but the consistency wasn't as smooth.
3. We introduced fruits and veggies at 6 months using the 3 day rule. We started with green beans, peas, carrots, sweet potato, then pears, apples, etc. We started doing oatmeal with a fruit for breakfast and rice/veggie for dinner. When we added lunch that was usually a fuit and/or veggie with no cereal. We evolved to a schedule of feeding every 2 hours alternating bottles with solids that worked well for us. 6:30 am wake/bottle, 8:30 breakfast, 10:30 am bottle, 12:30 lunch, 2:30 pm bottle, 4:30 dinner, 6:30 bottle, 7:00 pm bed.
4. If they don't like somthing at first, wait a while and try it again. It can take up to 10 times before a baby will accept something new.
