Baby Names

Addison

Tell me-- just how popular is it? I'm checking the SS website and it ranked 11 for 2007-- but for the state I live in, it was ranked 97 (in 2007). DH and I don't want to name her something EXTREMELY popular, and I'm not sure if there was a huge increase of Addison's in 2008 and 2009-- -so tell me, how popular is it where you live?

Re: Addison

  • We're in PA, and its not too popular here.  I know one 1y.o. girl and a 7 y.o. boy Addison.

  • I'm in NY - never met anyone named Addison - love the name, though =)
  • It is not that popular yet here in Cincinnati. I really like it though.
  • I think it is really cute, and here in Michigan, I am yet to come across one. I would worry, though, that with Grey's Anatomy and Private Practice still being so popular that it may still be gaining steam.
  • it's pretty popular out here. love the name though, it's adorable

  • I work with kids and only know one - a 13 y.o. boy.  I love the name!
  • It's not popular IRL where I live (mid-Atlantic coastal area, within 2 hours of several major cities). I think it's a great name, though I'm sure it may start increasing in popularity because of the Grey's/Private Practice influence.

  • I've never heard of or met anyone IRL with that name.
  • I've seen a couple in the paper. But keep in mind how popular Madison is, and Addison is so similar, there's bound to be a couple in your daughter's class.

I haven't met anyone named Addison, but a lot of people love Grey's Anatomy so I'm sure it will become more popular.?

I can almost guarantee you there was. The new list should be coming out on Mother's day.

  • I am a nanny in Texas and know tons of kids but this is one of the "popular" names I have not come across in this city. I know of one baby girl in Houston named this.
  • I know of at least 3 girls under the age of 3 named Addison.  I have loved that name for so long!!  I struggled with whether or not we should use it because it seems too popular, but there's no other girl name that I love as much as that one.

Thankfully, we found out that the baby is a boy :)  Now I don't have to worry about it!

  • I only know one.  A three y.o. girl.  I love the name.
  • It may become really popular do to the TV show Private Practice.

  • I know one Addison, a 2 yr old boy.

I like the name for a girl, but it is becoming very popular.

  • I know of two baby Addisons born in 2008... out of only about 6 friends/family members/etc we know who had a baby girl.  Needless to say, it is very popular around here (West Michigan).

  • It's becoming overdone, IMO. It's the next Emma.
  • Immensely popular in Texas--There are 3, 2 year olds in my daughter's daycare room with that name. At my junior high, there's 2 in the 7th grade alone. time to retire it.

  • i'm a doctor and there is a disease called Addison's disease, so it's always rubbed me the wrong way.
