Infertility

MFI Weekly Check In

MFI Weekly Check In

This group is for those of us dealing with male factor issues.   We welcome everyone but mostly we are dealing with low count, motility, morphology or all three.  Male infertility is a mysterious world filled with questions no one, including REs, urologists, acupuncturists or anyone else seem to have the answers to.  Any treatment suggested is a coin toss for success and a 3 month wait for a fresh batch of swimmers.  Most of us are told the only answer is IUI or IVF w/ICSI.  The purpose of this group is to support each other through shared experiences and to share any info we can because the more informed we are the better.   We have a check in every Monday morning but I will try to post a link later in the afternoon/evening also.  Welcome and baby dust to all!

Re: MFI Weekly Check In

  • Hey ladies....sorry again for the late check in.  I havent gotten any suggestions for QOTW so please feel free to add to post.

I started progesterone a week ago, I have 4 more days left. Dr said if no AF within 2 weeks of last pill to call  & get BCP which I will take for 10-14 days, Starting Lupron in the middle, then on to stims! My best guess is I will do ER sometime between 5/5 & 5/15.  Any cycle buddies out there?

As far as DH goes, we are going to get him on clomid to try to start working on the swimmers in case we need to go for a 2nd cycle.  They want him to do a retrograde ejac test (they said it was unlikely to be a problem) and also to get an MRI to check his pituitary gland.

That's it for us.  Hope everyone is doing ok and hope someone (or several someone's) have some Positive news for us soon! Big Smile

I am part of this group and never joined....we are dealing with MFI....just had our second SA and were told he is "boarderline fertile" numbers a little low and they are slow. So our next step after my last month of BCP will be clomid and IUI.
  • Not much going on here.  I had to have a beta done yesterday to make sure the hcg level is back at 0 after m/c.  I had it done in the afternoon, so I haven't heard from my RE office yet.  Still not sure what is next for us.  I think we will give IVF another try, but neither DH or I are feeling very hopeful.  I'd love to take a break from all of this until my sister's wedding in Oct, but DH and I are both to old to wait.  Grrrr . . . .

  • clomid cycle #1 failed.     :::sigh:::     we know our chances with TI are slim, but nevertheless, we still want to feel like we did everything we could to TTC with TI before we move on to IUI.     I go in tomorrow morning for CD3 labs and u/s, and unless I hear any different, we'll do the same thing next cycle (100mg Clomid- which gave me 3-4 good follies; and Ovidrel).    I've got the drugs ordered...
Brought to you by IVF, ICSI, limited fert, and oocyte cryopreservation.
    Because we're fancy like that.

  • DH has an appointment in about 45 minutes to discuss the results of his bloodwork with the urologist.  I know it is not good news because the office called before we went on vacation last week to say that he the doctor needed to see him.  As a nurse, I know that it can only be something not good, that needs to be explained.  This must mean that he is positive for some chromosomal abnormality, most likely Y chromosome microdeletion.

I will keep you posted afterwards.

Ladychicago, I'm so sorry your clomid cycle was not successful.

Good luck to everyone in their current/upcoming treatment.

  • Hello.  With the arrival of AF last Saturday, we finished our 8th and last cycle of trying on our own, without assistance.  We have our IVF Consult appointment next week on April 10th.  We will aim to have our ER  just as soon as DH returns from work (out of the country) in late May.  This current cycle will be a much needed break.  I am actually relieved and looking forward to de-stressing and not counting days or measuring everything in 2 week increments!

  • We have our first RE appointment next week (April 10) to start testing me since I seem to have issues too.

DH hit the 72 days post surgery mark this weekend, which is the typical amount of time for sperm to regnerate. We're not testing him until May, but it still makes me a little hopeful that we *could* get a BFP through TI.

We are adopting! Currently waiting for our domestic infant adoption match.

  • We are just TI right now and I am having a WHATEVER cycle.  I o'd late then got sick.  I said WTF and drank hot toddies to help with my cough and took advil.  What a rebel, right?  I am just waiting for AF.  I feel the cramps coming on.
  • I am currently stimming for IVF #2! Tentative ER is 4/8!
DX: Severe MFI (very low motility) in 2006. 2 IVF's and 1 FET ended in 3 losses. Adopted our baby girl born 10/2/10. FET March 2012= c/p. Officially done with fertIlity treatments. Plan to start adoption process again 2014/2015.
  • If you could add me to the list too please.  We are TTC #1, DH first SA showed low motility, borderline morph but very high numbers.

Doc says the sheer numbers could overcome the morph issue, but we will see.

DH has a repeat SA yesterday and he is supposed to get the results today.  Because he did not call me to tell me i'm guessing it is more bad news, and i'm kind of dreading him coming home from work...i guess i maybe would just rather not know the bad stuff?

I had an u/s which showed a pretty sizeable cyst (on the ovary that was developing the egg...awesome) and my HSG was clear...but doc seems to think this cycle would be a bust anyway thanks to lovely cyst.

So, between DH's slow swimmers and my cyst...well, we're just a mess.

If there are any ladies out there with MFI that cannot consider IUI as an option...please page me.  It wouldl be nice to talk to someone in the same boat.

  • Can I be added to the list please?

My husband has very low Morph and mobility.
    ?
Right now we're waiting for a stubborn cyst to go away so we can start our first cycle of IVF.?

  • Can I be added too?  We're dealing with MFI (motility 20%, morph 2%) and have been told IVF w/ ICSI is our best bet.  Our insurance wont cover IVF/ICSI until we complete this third medicated IUI cycle.

    Thanks!
