2nd Trimester

Thoughts...Renting baby heartbeat doppler

So, my DH and I talked about renting a heartbeat doppler to check the baby's heartbeat daily. (we are worry freaks!) I looked online and found that the prices are really not too bad anywhere from $25-$45 a month but I am worried about renting from the wrong company. Has any one rented a heartbeat doppler and what did they think? which company worked for them? Or maybe renting it in the first place is not a good idea...

thanks ladies!

Re: Thoughts...Renting baby heartbeat doppler

  • i would like to rent one DH doesnt think we should spend the money though
  • Loading the player...
  • For the amount you spend renting for the next 4-5 months, you could buy one...
  • i rent mine from babybeat.com for $27/month. they have diff models and prices. i LOVE it. i got it at 16w and its been wonderful. now that i feel her constantly everyday i will be sending it back soon. i DO reccomend it tho, if its in your budget. good luck
  • I thought about it, but had the same concerns as you.  I KNOW there are a few girls around here that have done it....  I wish I would have now, since I only got to hear it twice before we lost Patrick.  I already told DH the minute we get our next BFP we are renting one!!

  • Isn't there a good doppler out there that costs like $100 and you can keep it.  I would have LOVED to have something like this in 1st tri, but now I feel DS moving ALL the time, so I don't worry as much.
  • Ask on the SAL board, several of them have dopplers.

I have looked at prices for buying one and if I paid 45 a month for four months it would cost 180 and I couldnt find a doppler that less....I guess i should keep looking

  • I was lucky enough to have a friend lend me one that she had. I love listening to his heartbeat and it makes me feel good to be able to "check on him" when I can't feel him moving as much. I would recommend it and I think it is worth it!!!

  • I bought the Hi Bebe from amazon.com and it was around $100 dollars. It works well for me, and some of the other girls on the board have it too.
  • I bought the Hi Bebe for $100, it works great but I honestly don't use it that much now that she's moving around so much...

  • I thought about it and did some research, but then decided against it.  I was going to get one on Ebay or Amazon and it was about $100. I think it was that Hi Bebe one.  The reasons I chose not to were that I found some research saying that you are supposed to have a prescription to have a dopplar. Some people posted about it on the 1st tri board and then I looked more into what they posted.  I don't know. I wasn't comfortable doing something that normally requires a prescriotion (yes, I am a goody-goody).  I also talked to others and they said that they used it for a few weeks and then no longer needed it b/c they could feel the baby.

I also talked to people who said that every time they couldn't hear the heartbeat, they'd freak out and call the doctor. It caused unnecessary worrying.  I know that my doctors advise against their patients getting their own. All of that being said, it's entirely up to you.  I really would love to hear my guy's HB, but his kicks are just as good.

i rented without a precription. its like saying you need a prescription to use a stethescope. just doesnt make sense and sounds like hocus pocus to me.

Oh, I know. I am sure most people don't have an actual prescription for one.  That wasn't even the major reason I chose not to get one. I just thought it was interesting since so many people were getting them.  It's entirely up to the parents-to-be.

  • I agree with puppy mommy! Save yourself a TON of worry! If you hear YOUR heartbeat (which most likely you will), you'll freak out and rush to the doctor's office or the hospital for nothing. Just relax and enjoy the pregnancy! ?:D
  • By 24 wks, we could hear our babies heartbeat PERFECTLY through a stethoscope that cost $9.99...?
  • I have twice from babybeats.com and they have been wonderful. ?I recommend getting a digital vs non, as I've had both. ?My doc did say that once I start feeling regular movement, to stop using and rely on movement instead. ?She said sometimes people don't feel movement, find the h/b, and think everything is ok, but that may be a time for intervention.

And I should add that my doc was v supportive. ?Of course, I'm in less than 1% of the population due to my losses and it completely saved my sanity, but not all docs are against them.?

  • One of my concerns (and why we didn't end up getting one) was because I'm a big believer in intuition... and I would be afraid that I would be worried about the baby, use the doppler and assume everything was fine if I could find the heartbeat.....

Also, it's something to look forward to when I have an OB appt.
