My DH was asked to be Godfather for his friend's daughter. The last time I went to one, is when I was being Baptized so I have a few questions. How dressed up should we be? I assuming DH should wear a suit and tie right? Also should DH get his god daughter a gift? What kind of gifts are appropriate?
Re: ? about baptism
In my opinion your DH should def. wear a suit and tie. You could wear a dress or a nice skirt and top.
Typical gifts are a cross or crucifix (just make sure the godmother is not already buying one), a rosary, a bible and/or a savings bond.

Same.
Or maybe an inspirational plaque??

Yes to the suit & tie. ?If you're not the Godmother then you can get away with nice dress pants and a blouse (in my opinion).?
For gifts - a cross necklace or bracelet would be nice. ?Or a generous savings bond. ?Or anything religious like a wall plaque for the nursery or something similar.?
Oh... ?and this is something I didn't know until I was asked to be the Godmother once. ?Many times the Godparents buy the christening outfit. ?You may want to check w/ the Godmother or parents and see if that's a tradition that they keep. ?
Also, my husband's family has the Godparents dress the baby before the church & does pictures at the parent's home. ?May want to ask about that too... ?

when we had dd baptized some of the things she got were a cross, a bracelet with a cross(it was more of a keepsake), a gund personalized prayer lamb that had her name on it and it recites"now I lay me down to sleep"(totally cute!!) and a savings bond.
A great gift is a big beaded rosary that the child can play with (chew, drool on, etc). Our DD got one for her baptism and we bring it to church for her to play with and everywhere else.
ohh...I just found it....this is it!
