1st Trimester

1st Trimester Massage

So who has had one?  I want one in the worst way but my usual places won't do a prenatal massage before 12 weeks.  I read on google that most doctors think prenatal massage in the 1st trimester is fine, but that a lot of massage places won't do it for liability reasons -- it seems they are scared that if you miscarry you may sue them.

Just curious what others have seen/heard.   TIA.

  • I utilize the abilities of my DH. Actually I haven't even had to ask for one yet. He just does it for me! He's definitely not the best masseur, but I'm certainly not going to complain! Big Smile
  • i get them weekly for back issues - i have it done by a massage therapist at my chiropractor's office. its perfectly safe - the only reason they want to avoid it is if you have morning sickness, the massage will mostly make it worse because it increases blood flow. so if you do have morning sickness, you shouldnt have it done. i havent had any problems though. if your spa won't do it - then look into more medical massage therapist through alternative medicine or chiropractic (my insurance even pays for mine!)
  • My place will do them all the way to 9 months (they have this special pillow set up).

The important thing is to stay away from certain pressure points. This is big in Chinese medicine. Find a place that has certified people in massage on pg women.
