Infertility

Come on in if you are an IVF'r- new to it and have some qus!!

OK so am starting IVF soon and want to know how bad it is... AND what you did to survive the first round...  I am expecting moodiness and lots of appointments with my RE so am trying to find a way to make my work a little less stressful (should I take some time off???) and even about to start filling the freezer with some dinners so I don't have to cook for DH every night... I also want to book in some little treats- massages, facials etc. I want to kind of "bunker down"

SO am I making this seem worse than it will be?????  what are your tips for and tell me your experiences!!

Thanks

  • This is my third IVF and I was worried with my first about how with all these drugs I would feel as well.

To tell you the truth, the stimming does not effect me too much, some bloat - that's about it. I enjoy having work and every day distractions like cooking and every day life to keep my mind off if this will work or not. Yes the bi-daily to daily treks into the Dr office and daily shots suck, but after a while it almost becomes second nature. The emotional ups and downs come more from worrying about if this will work, how many eggs, how many fertilized.

I am planning on booking a massage for the day before ET, but I am not sure I would feel too comfortable lying on a table with my big old bloated belly during stimming. I do get a pedicure each cycle though and love that time of pampering.

Everyone is different and you have to do what is best for you, but I think the more time I have to worry about things the worse I am, so keep myself going with everyday life.

A lot of years and a million tears finally led me to you.
After 7 years trying to concieve, 3 failed IUIs and 2 failed IVFs, my third IVF was a success!
My Christmas baby turned into a turkey bird! Dillon Richard was born at 34 weeks, 5 days on November 28, 2009 after 10 weeks on bedrest for preeclampsia.

  • To be honest, and I know I'm in the minority, the IVF cycle wasn't that bad for me.  I think the worst part was how tired I got from getting up at 5am to go to my monitoring and the bloating I got from stims.  I don't really have any issues with needles or medical procedures though, and emotionally I just told myself that if I wanted to have a biological child with my husband, I needed to do this.

For my second IVF, I'm more worried about the risk of me miscarrying again if I get pregnant again.

  • Krissy explained it very well. ?I agree with her that it wasn't as difficult as I had feared. ?The shots weren't awful once I got used to them, I experienced little in the way of side effects and bloat. ?The constant dr's appts were a nuisance but work was very flexible so it worked out ok. ?I only took time off for procedure days and also found that keeping busy is very helpful in not obsessing, because it is very easy to obsess over every little detail. ?

I was also surprised to find that I enjoyed a few aspects of the process, following the progress of my embryos and seeing them being transfered was very exciting. ?I know its overwhelming at first, but you can do this. ?Good luck.
