one of my friends just emailed me pictures of her son at a birthday party and wrote,"I'm just so sad that he doesn't look like me. I look like I'm a stranger holding him and not like I'm his mom." then had a bunch of sad smiley faces.

Ugh, that annoys me on so many levels. She should just be happy she has a healthy child! Genetics are a funny thing, not all children look like a perfect blend of their parents. You're very strong for biting your tongue on this!

That's terrible. I really hate when my friends get mad when the babies don't look like them. Who cares?? They are happy and healthy.

yeah, she's totally clueless. she's the one close friend I have who absolutely does not get it. I have many other friends who have kids who have not gone through IF and although they have stumbled at times, they have tried so hard to "get it". this friend is a total lost cause. I've given up on trying to educate her on IF etiquette.

I'm not saying she can't feel this way, just vent to other friends who might be able to sympathize. An infertile will not.

I really wanted to reply,"don't be sad, at least you have a kid." (she actually has two) but instead I replied,"don't be sad, he kinda looks like you."

I hope she stops saying things like that before her child is old enough to understand. You have excellent self control to refrain from making a harsh comment back to her. Some people don't know how lucky they have it.
