I was of the "baby will come out when she is ready, I don't want to induce" thought through this whole pregnancy... Now I think I'm changing my mind. She's cooked long enough! Plus I'm amazed how uncomfortable I am all of a sudden... I seriously felt fine until my EDD, and now I've been awake for about 2 hours, ate breakfast, and am sooo ready for a nap! So when I go in for my 41w visit on Thursday, I think I will tell my Dr that I'm ready to be induced that night. (She offered to induce me at 39w if I wanted) As of Friday, I'm still not dilating, but I am 50% effaced. I go in for another NST this afternoon to make sure that baby is still doing well in there.
I'm scared cause I've heard that it hurts really bad to be induced... and I don't want to have a failed induction and c/s if I don't have to... but I've heard some good stories also... so now I'm torn.
Anybody have any great induction stories to share?
Re: Changing my mind on induction...?
My doctor only allows patients to go 1 week overdue. They feel that the placenta begins to deteriorate after 41 weeks. (I am not sure if this is true or not) If I were you I would talk to them on Thursday and discuss the pros and cons together. It is a hard decision to make, and I do not really think that there is a right or wrong answer.
I have an induction scheduled for 41w1d (if I make it that far). I am hoping to avoid induction, but I know I will be very ready at that point. I have heard a lot of induction success stories lately on this board though. Maybe post your question on 0-6?
I don't have any stories to share, but wanted to send you labour dust your way!!! If I were you, I would use induction as a last resort. I'm sure you must be feeling really uncomfortable now, but she'll make her appearance very soon. Hang in there!!! I'm right behind you too!!
P.S. Many of us are over on the Nest Hawaii Board if you wanted to say hello. Lots of pregnant knotties there too. Must be the water! LOL.
No story to share (yet?). But I'm feeling similarly.
I really wanted to avoid being induced. I'm still *relatively* comfortable, but I have to admit, there's a tiny, secret part of me that's glad that my doctor won't let me go past this Friday (9 days past EDD).
It's a tough call, I want to do what's best for my baby, but the opinions are so mixed as to what is 'safer' -- let the baby come on its own, or wait too long, and add other risks. I've opted out of an optional induction to this point, but will go along with what the doctor recommends as far as a deadline. I'm really hoping the baby makes its appearance over the next few days. But it does help to know there's an end in sight.
F.Y.I......0-6 is kind of hoping she keeps the baby in till we transfer to 6-12.
I was induced with DS and DD and both inductions went great. With DS I had no progress whatsoever and was 9 days past my due date, labor was 15 hours and I pushed for 40 minutes. With DD I was 3 cm 70%effaced and 5 days past my due date, labor was 10 1/2 hrs and I pushed for 20 minutes.
No great induction story but hope everything goes well!!! And given how far you are and that your cervix is already partially softened, you'll probably do fine. I ended up on pitocin after my water broke and not fun until I got the epi, but after that, just dandy. You'll do great.
DD -- 5YO
DS -- 3YO
Well you do know labor hurts.
My induction at 40 wks and 3 days was a success. But I wouldnt base it on someone elses story and have false expectations.
OMG, lol. That might be the closest I've come to snissing this entire pregnancy!
My first DD was induced and born 8 days early...from the time the cervadil was inserted to the time she was born was 22.5 hrs. You may take less time though cuz I was not dilated or effaced at all.
My second DD was 10 hrs from start to finish, and she was born 6 days early.
Inductions do sometimes have happy endings (c-section free for me!).
I am from 2nd tri but was induced with my first. It honestly wasn't that bad. I was 42 + weeks and my daughter weighed 10.6 when she was born. I tried for my epi but they gave it to me when I was "a good 6" and I rapidly dilated so it took no effect really. Even after all of that, it was a good experience. I went in around 6 am and she was born around 8 pm. She was fine, I was fine, no c/s, a very happy ending.
I just had the pit and then my water broke when I was a 6. I have no experience with cervadil? I hope this helps!
I've been induced twice & it was totally fine--i'd go so far as to say a pleasant experience, especially #2...all labor hurts, induced or not. You can get an epi with either if you can't handle the pain.
And furthermore, I personally rather be induced than have waited too long, have a huge baby (or one that breathes in merconium, ect) & need a C-section--that happens all the time as well. You never know, so holding out for something you may not get is something to consider. There are no gaurantees--your best strategy is to focus on having a healthy baby & hope the rest is fine. It's those that are sooo intent on having a certain kind birth that end up disappointed & traumatized...a good positive attitude goes a long way, trust me.
Well if you want to avoid pain an induction is the way to go. They'll give you the epidural practically in the lobby if you want. I had a completely pain-free, super duper easy labor when I was induced and it lasted less than 6 hours. So, induction isn't the worst thing to happen - especially if you are overdue. Many doctors won't let you go past 41 weeks anyway.
