Daycare lady called

and asked where her precious baby was and who in the hell~ I had dropped off this morning.

I am not sure whats going on with Tristan. Hes eating a ton more and more frequently. He screams for no reason. Hes clingy. He wont sleep longer then 20 minutes. She asked that I come get him early. Hes been doing this since Friday. I can't always go get him.

Re: Daycare lady called

  • teething?  maybe you need a mommy baby warm bath when you get home, and lots of snuggle times.

  • I'm kind of surprised she asked you to come and get him (unless he is sick).  Isn't that kind of her job?  It's not like the average person with an average job could regularly pick up their child early because he's cranky.  Not if they wanted to stay employed...  Sorry to hear he's been having a bad time of it, though - growth spurt, perhaps.  Poor baby boy.  :(

  • When DS gets like that (which happens regularly)he either has some bug and doesn't feel well, or he is teething, in which case we drug him up with tylenol or ibuprofin.  It sucks all around.  All of this weekend he needed to be on me to be happy, in retrospect he must have had a stomach bug since I woke up with it today.
  • I would tell her that if he's not running a fever or genuinely sick, then you aren't picking him up early.  She's being paid to watch him, even when he's teething or going through a growth spurt.

  • Joes: He has two teeth and is chewing everything. I have been giving him pain reliever and snuggle time. I feel for him. We do love our baths. :)

Papagena: Thats what pisses me off. I pay you $150 a week. DH got off early so hes picking him up. But she only has one infant at a time for this reason. Thats what she said in the interview. Then she has a 2 and 3 year old, and 3 after school kids. I was thinking teething and growth spurt.

Suzy: He was gassy and pooped a lot. I gave him mylacon. I hope hes not sick again.

Thanks ladies, I just needed to vent. I love him and I feel bad cause hes never like this so I know somethings wrong.

DH said today is the only day. Last week he went one day. But we still paid her $150.

  • I'd tell her you'll pick him up early when able to if she accepts to be not paid for that time. I doubt she'll suggest it again.

I like her a ton but she really annoyed me. She also is taking 3 weeks vacation, at different times. 2 are paid. She acts like the third is no big deal cause we don't have to pay her. But we still have to take off work.

  • She gets paid vacation????!!!!!!  Is that normal for daycare?

Her contract has 2 weeks paid vacations, and sick days like 5 paid.

WOW!  I run a daycare and don't charge for any time that I close, whether for my vacation or illness.  Nor do I EVER ask a parent to come get their child unless that child is actually sick.  That said, I do charge if you keep your child home when he's scheduled to be there, whether for your vacation or illness.

I would tell her, nicely of course, that you can only pick him up if he is genuinely sick with a fever or other symptoms (ie. vomiting).

  • Calling you to pick him up early is absurd in this case. If he's not sick/running a fever then she's getting paid to handle it. She can't just call and have you come get him every time he's fussy or cranky. I'd tell her you'll come get him but you're not paying her for it.

I did in-home daycare last year and did have a weeks vacation scheduled but parents did NOT have to pay for it because it was MY time off. They did pay half of their weekly rate when they were on vacation or the full-rate if they just didn't show up.
