Success after IF

Just had my first u/s

There is one sac measuring a measley .29 cm. I know it's early but with DS we saw a yolk and gestational sac by this time. The doc wants me to return in 3 weeks for another u/s because I am high-risk for another ectopic pregnancy. She wants to make sure it's not a psuedo-sac.

I feel a bit deflated and I don't know how I'm going to survive waiting 3 more weeks for an ultrasound....

Re: Just had my first u/s

  • I actually think that sounds pretty good for 4w,5d!  I know it's hard to not see what you're expecting (or want to see) though.  Lots of hugs and good thoughts for a good u/s in 3 weeks!  I hope this 3 weeks speeds by for you.

  • I am so sorry!!! But it is still so early, so try not to get too discouraged. Could you have ovulated later than you thought?

Francisca had the same thing happen at her first early u/s and is now 10 weeks pregnant with twins. Don't lose hope!!!!

Can they get you in sooner than 3 weeks? 1-2 weeks should be long enough.

  • I would also think that's okay for 4w+. I had my first u/s at 6w3d and I wasn't really expecting to see too much then.

3 weeks is a long time. You can't go back any earlier?

  • I'm sorry you didn't get to see what you'd hoped :(  Here's hoping the next 3 weeks FLY by and you get to see your little embie with a super strong heartbeat!!

  • Ditto marriedgirl, that sounds great for 4w5d! If you want, you can check out my blog. It has my first us at 5w6d, all we saw was a sac. Two weeks later, we had a little baby with a beautiful heartbeat, and less than a week after that, baby was moving around!
  • I'm sending good thoughts for your growing baby and your strength to get through the next 3 weeks!

  • That is very early!  I would think another week and 1/2 would be plenty of time to see more. My first ultrasound was at 5 weeks 2 days.  I would call back and see if they can move it up, especially if they are concerned about ectopic.

  • Thanks, ladies! I should have clarified a bit. I was very glad to even see a sac at 4w5d. The doctor made me feel a bit deflated because she thinks it's a tiny bit small and is a little wary. I do have some right sided intermittent pain (where my previous EP was).

3 weeks is as soon as they could fit me in - argh!

  • Ugh I'm so sorry. I hate the waiting and three weeks is a long time. It sounds promising though! Don't listen to the Dr., I think they have to be over cautious and don't realize how we analyze everything they say, and how they say it! I'm very guilty of doing that. Good luck!
  • It's definitely early...I had an u/s closer to 6 weeks and they couldn't even see the yolk sac. I know it's hard but hang in there!

As for waiting three weeks...ugh! That truly sucks. I'm sorry they're making you wait so long. Can you request another u/s sooner then that, just for peace of mind?

  • Ugh! I am so sorry. I agree with the pps, could they get you in a tiny bit sooner? Waiting is the absolute worst :(
It took over four years to be diagnosed with PCOS. We TTC #1 for 18 months, did 5 rounds of Clomid and finally moved onto IVF...which worked! Throughout our IF journey, we suffered 3 miscarriages. We conceived both DD and DS without treatment.
