Change in BBT...

Hi ladies,

DH and I are TTC#1 with possible MFI (2nd SA is today) and potential endo / cyst issues on my end.

I am a charter and noticed recently that my BBT has dropped quite a bit in the last month.  I started syntrhoid in February and since starting it my pre-O BBT has dropped from ~97.4 to the high 96's (96.8 / 96.9) and post-O BBT has dropped from 98.2 to 97.7.  I actually am not even sure that I O'd b/c i always climb into the 98's, but using the charting rules i get a cover line.

I was under the impression getting my thyroid working properly would increase my BBT, not decrease it?  TSH is now in normal range...

I wonder if this is being caused by the meds or maybe the giant cyst on my ovary?

Anyone have any thoughts / speculation, or has this happened to anyone else?  I don't know exactly what the cyst will do ... to my knowledge i've never had one before...

 Thanks!!!

Re: Change in BBT...

  • I have been taking synthroid for 3 years now and my temps have never changed from what it was before taking it. I have always had a low body temp of 96 -97, post O I get to 98.

I really don't think you should be reading so much into temping. All it can tell you really is if you are ovulating. Nothing more, nothing less. HTH

A lot of years and a million tears finally led me to you.
After 7 years trying to concieve, 3 failed IUIs and 2 failed IVFs, my third IVF was a success!
My Christmas baby turned into a turkey bird! Dillon Richard was born at 34 weeks, 5 days on November 28, 2009 after 10 weeks on bedrest for preeclampsia.

  • I wish i could tell if i was ovulating, but with the change in BBT I cannot.  I guess that is why i am wondering.

Ultimately it probably doesn't matter since it looks like we are dealing with MFI.  I could ovulate every day and it wouldn't help.

Ugh, some days I just want to give up on all of this.

  • I have had my BBTs change from one cycle to another. As long as you're getting a definitive temp shift (and it sounds like you are), it sounds fine. I think right now you're wedded to the "old" way your temps looked, and you just need to continue looking for the pattern instead of focusing on the actual temps.
