Infertility

Heard from the RE...I need a lap SAIFW

Arghhhh...RE just called, after reviewing my films from HSG and ultrasound, she is reccommending the Clomid challenge test to do this cycle (in about 2 weeks if I'm not late) and a lap after that.

My "good" luck is continuing - one of my tubes is more affected by SIN (condition w/inflammation of tubes, yada yada) Now the other tube that is only barely affected has cysts - great. IUI is now out as an option, so IVF maybe our only option.

After the lap & Clomid challenge, what comes next? Do those two things detremine whether you are a candidiate for IVF, or is there more testing/procedures?

  • So sorry to hear about the tubal issues.  I know how you feel, as that's the reason for our IF.  I didn't do the Clomid Challenge, but did have a lap to open my tubes.  We tried for a year on our own after the lap and when we didn't get pregnant decided to go to IVF.  A lap will tell you more.  If your tubes are repairable, they may tell you to try a bit on your own.  If they go in there and find that the tubes are too damaged, they wil probably recommend IVF as the next step.  Good luck!  The lap should give you lots of answers!

  • Ugh...I'm so sorry!! I don't have experience with a lap or clomid but I wanted to give you a ((HUG)) and tell you I've been thinking about you.
  • sorry you have to have a lap!

you may need to have more bloodwork done at certain points in your cycle, depending on how the clomid challenge turns out.

I also had to have a saline sonogram to look at the shape of my uterus. (don't worry, it's not nearly as bad as an HSG!)

    good luck!!

  • Well, my tubes are open, but they are damaged, and from the SIN, they can't be repaired...so my lap is basically to see if there is anything else wrong.   The HSG was painful, so I'm not looking forward to the lap.

But at this point so is getting bloodwork done - I'm NOT looking forward to that. It took 3 tries last week to get some, and I have a black & purple bruise about the size of half my hand on my arm where it that finally worked. Apparently, on top of everything else, my veins are ""tiny" and it takes forever for the blood to come out.

Arghhhhh....I'm praying the next couple of things bring some good news. I never imagined how hard IF would be, it's just all hitting me the past week or so.

Thanks, Sarah -  I need all the hugs I can get! You are in my thoughts too, I'm sending some good vibes for your DH :)
