Twin or full/double bed?

We always planned on our kids having twin sized beds. Both DH & I had twin beds growing up. We are currently looking for dd's big girl furniture and I've had several people surprised that we're not getting her a full bed. Most people assume that is what we are getting her.... Or assume that we'll upgrade the twin to a full when she is older

What are you planning on getting & why?

I should add that we are getting a trundle bed so that we do have more sleeping space for guests, sleepovers, etc. But kids live in their rooms and we think the extra floor space is important.

Re: Twin or full/double bed?

  • I am doing a full for two reasons. 1 - It will be the only bed she ever gets  2 - her room is huge and a full would just look better.

  • DS has a full size bed because that's what his crib converted into. :)   He has a playroom, so the extra floor space wasn't an issue for us.

  • We're getting DS a twin bed. Just like you DH and I both had a twin bed pretty much until we moved out of our parents house. Why would a toddler need anything bigger than a twin bed? People are weird. I think the trundle idea is a great idea.

    Thanks!

I agree with point #2. If their rooms were huge I'd definitely get bigger beds (her room is 14x 12).

But#1- again implying that a twin would need to be "upgraded"??

We got Miles a full and wish we would have went with a twin.

We are getting bedroom furniture that is a twin and will just put the full upstairs and bring it down when guest stay. I really like having more floor space in their rooms.

Also ditto on the trundle. DD will get a trundle for her twin as well.

  • We did full beds.  First of all because we had a full bed for DD to move into already, and we have another full bed (just need the mattress and box spring) so we'll give DS the bed DD is currently in and move her into a full antique brass bed that I had as a kid.  Also, we have a 3 BR house, so with full beds it allows us to have space for guests without having a dedicated guest room.  DD will just sleep with us when we have guests.
  • We're doing twin.  Both DH and I slept on twin beds until we moved out  on our own and I don't see the point in getting a bigger bed.

  • We did a full for DD, because we already owned it.  She  moved into our guestroom and took over our guest bed.  We left the nursery up and we no longer have a dedicated guest room.  I think if we would have had to buy a bed we would have gotten a twin. Since we have smaller rooms as well, we pushed the bed into the corner, which gave her floor space to play.  We have a playroom as well, but she also plays in her room.

My sisters both had twin beds until they went to college and they are tall (5'10").  My husband had a twin all through high school and he is 6'.  A full bed isn't longer than a twin, so I don't get the argument that they need a full as they get older.
