Saving for IVF

As of right now we have about $ 8,500.00 saved for IVF.  It seems so close yet so far away - it are just slightly past the half way mark - $ 16,000 seems like so much money for only a 65% chance.  But we have to take that risk - because it will be so worth it in the end if we have a baby to show for it.  I keep telling my husband he is not allowed to buy anything big for himself because he has to buy me a baby first - I am so bad - I should not say it like that - but that is what it really is - spending $ 16,000 in hopes for a child or children if we are lucky.

Re: Saving for IVF

  • I bet it feels great to be over half way there.

I was just reading your journey in your siggy.  We are just starting ours - just found out DH has MFI - poor motility, everything else is fine.  I imagine we will be on your path after our first trip to the fertility clinic/urologist next week.

  • You are so much better than me when it comes to paying for IVF. We were so naieve and thought the first one would work. We have financed a majority of our cycles and will probably be in IVF debt for several more years. But it's totally worth it for us to attempt to have a bio baby.
  • GOOD LUCK!!! You are halfway there. I am not sure where you live, but my clinic gives discounts for OOP. You would have a place to stay:)

  • I know this sounds weird but have you checked out other IF places.  Maybe it is just the cost of living difference but mine cost far less then $16,000.

I went for a second opinion before moving on to IVF and there was about a $1000 difference between the 2.  You might even look into another state if you can get the time off from work to go for the cycle.  Might just be worth looking into. If you had someone to stay with in that state it would be even better.

I have heard some others on here applying for grants and things too.  I am not sure how all that works though.

When I first started IF I looked into a study in IL that gave free IVF you just had to pay for the meds and a few other things.  It was to early for me but you might get accepted.

Hope that helps. I just know how hard it is to wait. Good luck!!

  • I live in PA - the reason I am staying with my RE and paying the $ 16,000 is because he is the best in the area - with the highest success rate around - I could go back to my old RE and do IVF for $ 10,000 - but my thought is that you get what you pay for - and I want to have the best around.   Thank you for the advice though and Babbs - you are too sweet!!

  • aren't there programs that have a guarantee for IVF...where you pay for it and if it doesn't work you are refunded the money or most of it to try again?
