I often am amazed by the way dogs and cats react to different things (our dog can sense a thunderstorm coming at least 20 minutes prior). And while I'm still on TTTC (had an IUI today, RE said everything looked perfect for once) - I'm curious about your PG and how your pets reacted.
Pet owners; when you found out you were PG, or even before you found out - at what point do you think your dog or cat sensed you were PG?
Thanks for entertaining me with this odd question :-)?
Re: Did your pet know before you that you were PG?
I had always heard this while I was TTC so I would watch my cats carefully during each 2ww for any signs that I was pregnant ; ) During my last 2 ww, my cats really acted no differently and I cited that as one of MANY reasons I was sure it didn't work.
However, it did work....and about 2-3 days after my BFP my one cat (the black one) would not leave me alone. She's always been sweet but she totally needed to be sleeping on my belly at all times and she is still pretty much like that. So, yes, I think they know. Unfortunately, in my case it wasn't any earlier than I knew.
Good luck!!
when I got pregnant with Ava, our dumb dog Baloo (springer) was very clingy when I was 1st pregnant - - slept on the floor on my side of the bed, sat near me ALL the time... and he repeated that behavior the last week before I gave birth. This past month Davez noticed he was being really clingy too, and we found out I was pregnant again (but m/c'd). Do they smell a shift in hormones or what? I dunno. But as much as he frustrates me, he is AWESOME with Ava, today I looked and she was "riding" him, bouncing up and down on him using his floppy ears as "reigns".... he just layed there.
;-)
i had 3 early m/cs, and with one of them, my one cat acted realllly crazy the day i tested. in fact it was part of why i tested. but then of course i lost the pgcy almost immediately.
with this pgcy, my cats acted no differently until more recently. now that same cat who acted crazy that time will NOT leave my side. it's adorable
but def nothing before BFP.
GL to you!!!

I'm pretty sure our dog is figuring out something is up, but I don't think she knew before. None of our pets were more clingy or anything before our BFP.

Thanks Gretchen, and everyone else here on SAIF, this was fun to hear. I'm so happy for all of you, I just want youto know that, it's wonderful to hear your stories! And I appreciate your entertaining my question last night! I'm doing everything in my power to be hopeful this time, after taking a year off after a myomectomy - I've deemed 2009 a good year, and this IUI is hopefully part of it!
Similarly to you Gretchen, my cat knew before I even though of testing, she's not at all a cuddly cat and suddenly she was sitting next to me on the sofa and constantly sniffing my belly. She prompted me to test, so I tested, it was a BFP, and then three days later I miscarried, this was about 1.5 years ago.
Congratulations again to you all - Gretchen I remember you from TTTC and am just thrilled you're having twins! Good luck! I hope to be joining you all real soon!
