NBR: Need a romantic restaurant recommendation

We're going to visit our friends in San Diego in a month or so. They haven't had a date night alone, out of the house without the kids, since both of their kids were born since they don't have family nearby. We want to not only watch their kids for the evening but give them a gift certificate to a great restaurant. Can you please help us by recommending one?

The couple is very down to earth. Before they had kids, they did like dressing up but not super fancy. They like good food in a nice atmosphere but they aren't into the over the top, high end type of atmosphere.  I can picture them loving either a seafood or an Italian restaurant that is cozy where the wait staff is super friendly and the food is good.

I know San Diego is huge so I'm think anything between Mira Mesa to downtown  (Coronado Island is okay too).

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

  • The Prado in Balboa Park sounds perfect!  If you want to go a little more spendy, Blue Point Coastal downtown.  Monsoon is a great Indian Restaurant and Taka for  Sushi downtown also.  Good Luck.
