I started going through what I bought for the baby so far (including what I plan to buy) and the list is staggering. At the same time, I just finished my registry and my registry is HUGE too! It is overwhelming. What do you all plan to buy yourselves vs. what do you plan to wait for until your shower?
I am buying mostly nursery things: furniture (crib, dresser, armoire, bookcase), rug, mattress, bedding, lighting.
I also bought my diaper bag (yay Kate Spade outlet prices) and am considering buying my stroller cause I am finding some great deals online.
The rest... I am hoping I receive as gifts! I know my mom is buying my glider/ottoman but the rest is a big question mark. I am nervous because I still have a number of big ticket items on my registry (pack n play, car seat, video monitor, swing, bouncer, the list goes on and on...).
I knew having a baby was expensive but... yikes!
Re: What are you buying vs. what are you hoping to get as a gift?
Video monitor? What's that for?
Yes, I'll google.....
Edit: Yeah, totally unnecessary for me. Thankfully, H's parents are buying the crib, mattress, and changing table. My parents will probably get us a carseat. We'll probably buy the pack and play. I'm going to have a pretty large shower, and would be extremely grateful if we got most of the things on our registry.
Answering this type of question reminds me how unprepared we really are!
My mom is buying all the furniture and the glider (HUGE blessing/relief!).?
My dad is buying the stroller.
We plan on buying the bedding/decor, we already bought our Moby wrap and a diaper bag. We already have boppy pillows and a bumbo seat, a bathtub, and a cosleeper. We will buy the car seat if we need to, but DH said he thinks his parents will get it.?
The only thing I'm hoping people buy for us are the cloth diapers we are setting up a registry for at a local specialty store. That would be awesome!?
ETA: Someone buying the swing would also be a thrill!?

We don't need that much but I am hoping we get a carseat as a gift from one of our parents.

WHERE is there a KS outlet? I'm a KS freak and really wanted one of her diaper bags, but the cheapest one I like is no longer available. I'm jealous and not willing to spend $400 on a diaper bag! haha
We bought/are planning on buying: crib, mattress, bedding, changing table, travel system and possibly the pack n play.
I'm having my shower in June so I have plenty of time to purchase the rest of the items on our registry.
We have bought our crib, changing table, bookcase, and bedding.- We were ready to fill our empty room! We plan on buying our glider.
We hope to get the travel system, pnp, high chair, and other necessities from my showers, but we aren't depending on the showers for those things. I have no idea what people will actually buy us.
I am not buying anything until after my showers. This is a first grandbaby for both sides & people in the past have been super generous to us. That being said I have everything intention of buying the things we don't get.
My mom is buying the crib, my ILs the dressers & my godmother the glider & ottoman.
We registered for everything else. I have bought a few decor things for the room & will also buy an area rug. We are havign two showers 50-60 people each, so despite how hard it is I am going totry to hold off until then to buy rest.
My parents offered to buy the crib/dressers/etc. His parents offered to buy the car seat and stroller. I have several relatives with babies and toddlers, so they have offered to give us some items such as a pack and play.
Plus, every time my mom or his mom stops by they have something else for the baby. My living room closet is starting to overflow with random packs of diapers and wipes and boppy pillows and clothes. Can you tell this is going to be the first grandchild on either side?
We registered for pretty much everything except furniture and diaper bags, since what we wanted wasn't available at the stores we registered at. A few things, like a bag for our CDs and a hamper, we'll probably just buy ourselves because we know no one would get them since they aren't "cute and babyish". If our monitor every comes back in stock at BRU we'll just buy it as well, since we don't want to risk it going out of stock again.?
Having a baby is expensive, but some of your big ticket items are totally unnecessary. I personally think video monitors are silly, and I won't buy a swing or bouncer until my son is born and I can see what he likes. Some kids despise one or both of those items, and they're too pricey in my opinion to risk it. ?
