his sperm analysis? I am afraid he will not be able to ejaculate on demand for this test. I am wondering what will happen if that is the case. Thanks for any help.
Do you live close enough to do it at home and get it to the lab in time? We did that. Hubby can't do that now that we're at the IVF stage and he's terrified of doing it at the clinic. I'm glad they have us freeze the sample from his most recent semen analysis as a backup in case he can't on the day of the ER.
Our Dr. let us collect at home and take in for IUI. For the first SA, I had to help him in the lab *room*.
TTC# 1 Since 10/2005----Diagnosed with PCOS March of 2006 multiple failed cycles, multiple IUIs, lap with ovarian drilling 4/2008 Finally BFP on 11/23/09 beta#1=36 beta#2 =62 beta#3=139 Liliana was born on March 27,2010 at 21w5d due to infection and pre-term labor BFP #2 on 6/20/10 after Gonal-F and TI First u/s showed Twins! TTC#2 since 02/2012 with out RE... Back to RE 08/2016----- Cycle #1 10/2016 Femara 7.5mg=???
I wouldn't worry too much about it unless it happens. I think a lot of men have a fear of the unknown when it comes to SA's, and they're not that big a deal.
As the pp's noted, see if you can collect at home. DH did his first SA at home, and I think that put him in a decent frame of mine so he could do his follow-ups at the RE's office.
we collect at home also. It can be hard for my dh to "come on demand" so we were told to bring one in ahead of time so they could freeze it. Then if something happens on the day of it won't be a big deal!
Dh's 2 SA samples were able to be given at home as we live 5 minutes from the md's office. When I was working w/ my 1st re he was able to give all of his samples at home for my iui's. When we moved to the 2nd re dh had to give all of his samples at the re's office as they're over an hr away.

Well this may be TMI, but I help my husband. It's the one time (unless it's a special occassion) that he gets a BJ. It usually doesn't take him too long from the point. I wish we could do it at home but we live 2 hours from the clinic. Good luck!
They had my husband do this in the office as our only option. It was not easy for him at all and he was in there a loooooong time. I told them that he was fine and to just leave him alone. The kept coming in to say, we are still waiting on your husband and then we will release you after my ER. My DH is not the typical "guy" stereotype. He actually does not get turned on by magazines and videos especially the outdated 1960's specials that they gave him! Anyhow, he WAS able to finally do it but it took a long time and he hated it!!! I guess you can say he is spoiled and does not have to revert to those methods . Anyhow hopefully they will let you bring a sample in as an alternative, our RE did not allow it as an option and we had been worried about it for weeks.
I went in the room and helped my husband both times he had to do a SA. For our IVF, he was able to do it with the material they leave in the rooms, but it took a while. He said it wasn't as bad as he thought it would be, just kind of embarrassing knowing that the doors to the rooms aren't real thick. lol
Like the others we are close enough that he can 'do it' at home! However it made him really moody and HE DROPPED OFF THE FIRST ONE TO OUR BLOOD LAB and not the actual RE office. It was a really fun convo with our nurse...'hello I'm calling to find out about my husband's analysis'...'your husband didn't drop off his sperm'...ummmm 'hold on let me call him'!!!!!!!!!! I was pissed! the directions were on the damn container 1 and 2 WHO did he give it to that let him walk out...he claims he just walked in and handed it to someone...they don't even take sperm there!!!!! *sigh*....He claimed it was so traumatizing that he forgot where to go......so my previous thought of it being a 'piece of cake' are wrong, but hopefully he can 'work' his way into it!GL!!!
We live close by, but still did it in the office. ?He did the SA in the room by himself and hated it and didn't want to do it again, so I went in with him (which they said was totally fine) for the IUI, which made it a little less clinical. ?It was a piece of cake. ?He was happy just to have me in the room.
7/2009 - Gonal-F cycle #2 with Ovidrel trigger and IUI #5 - BFP!
Twin boys born at 38 weeks 3 days!
8 months later...spontaneous BFP! And twins again!
Yes!!! Dh gets nervous. Last time, I tried to help him from home but that just made it worse. It was on the day of our IUI and I left the house crying thinking he wasn't going to get the sample because he was having no success... the whole ttc thing is STRESSFUL!
DH just did his today... instructions were to do it at home, which was a close call for us getting it to the hospital in 45 mins. He was upset when he found out he had to do it "dry" (without lubes/lotions/etc), but he managed. Other than that, we made jokes about it to keep it light and stress-free. Sick humor helps me deal with stress...
