3rd Trimester

Anyone using a shower/bath during labor...

at the hospital to help with contractions?  What are you bringing to wear?  Our lamaze teacher at the hospital said some people bring sports bras, some go in their hospital gowns and some go in the nude.   Not such a big deal but pretty much the last thing I have to pack in my hospital bag.

Re: Anyone using a shower/bath during labor...

  • I wish!! I would love to have a water birth, but our hospital doesn't offer it. If I was going to, I would use a tankini top. I personally would want as much as my body covered as I could have. Good luck!

  • I want too... Warm showers help with my BH now so i def. want to take a shower at the hospital. I will probably be nude but i want my DH to get in with me and massage me in the shower and he has packed his swimsuit so the nurses dont freakout if they walk in

  • I'm actually having Savannah in the tub. We're doing a waterbirth - so yeah! I'm bringing a bikini top. My cousin wore her bra.
  • I will probably wear a maternity tankini.
  • My plan is to labor at home for as long as possible using our tub and shower. Once I get to the hospital my plan is to continue using the shower there, since they don't have tubs available. I didn't plan on bringing a swim suit which I guess mean I would be au natural. As for DH he has swim trunks packed for the ocassion.

  • My midwife asked at our last appointment if I like water.  She said, then I can labor in the tub for awhile.  Um...yes, please.

I guess I might get a sports bra, but I wouldn't mind being nude.

  • i'm planning a water birth so will be laboring in a shower then moving to a tub for the pushing phase. I'm bringing a bikini top since we're going to try to take a few pics.

  • Those who are planning to labor in tub at home before heading to hospital, my midwife said something to me about not getting in too early because for some people it will relax you enough to actually stop labor, so you may want to ask your doc about the guidelines to avoid that.
  • We are planning on laboring in the tub at a birthing center. I'm wearing a tankini bathing suit top-it is really cute and I want to be somewhat decent for the pictures. (I know this isn't a reality, it is nice to think though!) DH is wearing trunks.

It is true that the water can sometimes slow labor, you just have to play it by ear!
