Success after IF

need measuring behind/slow hb stories

They don't even have to be success stories - let me know either way what you think I can expect. I can take bad news.

Here's the update I just posted on TTTC:

well....there's still a heartbeat, and there was a little more growth. Here are the stats - if anyone knows a good website where I can compare growth stats, let me know!

2/20: measured 5w3d, no fetal pole, no hb (should have been 6w3d)

2/24: measured 5w6d (26mm), slow hb (should have been 7w0d)

2/29:  measured 30 mm (growth of 4 mm in 4 days), hb was estimated at 80bpm (their machine doesn't measure it - nurse just guessed). I should be 7w5d today.

RE doesn't know what to think or predict. He couldn't give us % chance  of survival, but "optimistically" said that we can't rule out a "positive outcome" since there is still a hb.

My spotting was heavier on Friday but has gradually slowed down to almost nothing today. RE couldn't find a source for the bleeding. I'm guessing it's b/c of stopping and starting PIO last week - maybe the hormonal changes caused it.

I'll probably go back at the end of this week for another u/s. I have zero pregnancy symptoms, but I guess I'm still pregnant until further notice.

thanks for any info you can give me, whether good or bad!

Re: need measuring behind/slow hb stories

  • We're in the same boat.  I went in for my 7 wk u/s last Wednesday, which showed I'm measuring a week behind and a HB of 100 bpm.  I'm going in next Wednesday and I'm hoping everything will be okay.  I don't have any words of wisdom - just want to tell you I feel ya' and I hope your little fighter kicks some butt at your next u/s.  ((( BIG HUGS )))

  • I'm with you girls too. :( Really stinks that we are all going through the whole thing. lnle its great that you have so much information to go by, they didn't tell me any numbers at all. Just that I'm a week behind and the heartbeat is too low. I hope for all of us that it is ok and the babies continue to grow nice and strong. You are both in my prayers.
  • I dont have any personal experience with this, but I want to wish you luck.

Also, don't listen to what the nurse said about "guessing" that the HB was 80bpm. Sometimes they have a way to make us worry even more than we already are!  There is no way to really tell what the bpm were unless she was counting it or the machine counted it! I also think I've heard/read that the baby should grow about 1mm per day that early on, so it appears that your little one did from 3/24-3/29. What was the baby measuring in weeks today? I know that it can be normal to also measure a week off (behind or ahead) early on too.

thanks Spockles! The problem was that we had a different RE today, and he doesn't seem as invested in data, so he didn't give us a weeks/days estimate - only size.

my mom forwarded me this website, which seems to have some good info about fetal growth. It looks to me like we're still in the 6 week range.

  • I measured behind my entire pregnancy.  The heartbeat was always ok, though.  I'd be a bit wary of an estimation on the heartbeat.  Can they send you someplace that can actually measure the heartbeat?

For me, it turned out to be IUGR due to a poor placenta.  There was restricted blood flow from placenta to baby.  But, it was good enough for me to deliver my son at 36w1d.

Hang in there. (hugs)  I am praying for you that your baby grows and thrives.

  • I don't have anything to add but wanted to tell all three ladies dealing with this that I'm sorry you have to go through it and I hope for the best for each of you.

  • I don't have any input either, but I just want to lend my support to you 3 dealing this with.  It's a stressful road and I hope that your little ones continue to fight.  Best of luck to you all!
