After seeing many posts about fore/hind milk imbalance I now check my DD's poop more closely. Is this even possible as I EP ? She has mostly yellows poops but sometimes she does get the green kind of mucousy poops. Sometimes they smell very vinegary. I EP and the days milk all goes in one big container and gets mixed well and you can see the fat in it but I still wonder if the green poop is "normal". She is not a fussy baby and is gaining weight noramlly. Any Ideas?
Re: EP milk balance ?
My Pedi said green means the milk traveled faster through their system.
Question though: Why do you put all your milk into one container? I would think you then have to heat it all to swirl the fat back in just to redistribute into bottles. I would put smaller amounts in a bottle and then chill. You should only warm the milk once after it's pumped.
If your DD's poops were green consistently or most of the time, I would be inclined to say you had a FM/HM imbalance. But because you are an EPer and you most likely empty your breasts with each pump, this probably isn't a problem at all. It's usually when you interrupt a breastfeeding session before the baby is completely done to switch to the other breast or you have an oversupply where the baby gets full before emptying the breast. Collecting all your milk into a bottle is not a problem at all as long as you swirl the bottle before breaking it down into smaller bottles for your LO to eat. What you are likely seeing is an occasional gastric upset which is completely normal. Their little systems are still acclimating and a green poop here and there is common. Your LO is gaining and happy so all signs point to a very healthy little girl. If she were not gaining, very gassy and upset, then there would be cause for concern.
I have tons of respect for EPers! I had to pump for the first 5 weeks for DS's life and it was a lot of work.

I make sure it is mixed every time that I pour a bottle.I shake/stir it, I know some people think that kills the nutrients but I am skeptical. I could make the bottles up and keep them in the fridge but I feel it is just easier to grab what I need. I pump 50-60oz a day and she only eats 4-5oz at time. It is also easier to keep track of what to freeze every 3days. I mark the containers dates.
