painful IUI??

This is my first medicated cycle with IUI. I took follistim for 9 days, had two follicles, and then triggered with ovidrel. I had my first IUI on Friday and it was extremely painful. The nurse told me I had a curved cervix. I had severe cramps for a few hours, but then they completely went away. I also had minimal spotting. I had my second IUI today and the same cramps/spotting for a few hours. However, it's 12 hours later and I'm still having soreness in my uterus. The pain is not like cramps, but just a dull ache. It's worse when I stand up or move around or cough. Anyone had a similar experience? I'm assuming it's normal, but some opinions would be great!!?

Re: painful IUI??

  • Mine were quite painful w/ my 1st re. I got the feeling that iui's were "annoying" for them to do w/ the way they hurt so much.

With my 2nd re I didn't even feel a thing.

Slight cramping and spotting is normal.

  • Mine didn't hurt at all. ?However, several days afterward, I noticed a dull ache that sounds exactly like what you are describing. ?It's a really subtle ache that seems to get worse when I stand up or start walking. ?I was hoping it was pregnancy symptom (pressure from the uterus?), but now I'm starting to think it might have been from the IUI?

  • Thanks for the feedback. The pain is better this morning, so I'm hoping it'll just go away in another day or so.

Since your symptoms started later, it might be something totally different. I'm hoping it's an early pregnancy symptom for you!!?

  • I have a "tilted" cervix as one nurse put it.  It barely hurt with her and I asked her why and she said I just remember yours tilts down and to the left.  I tell whoever was doing the IUI that my cervix is tilted down and to the left and it doesn't hurt usually anymore. Hopefully you wont' have a next time but ask for paticulars on your cervix (also good info for the yearly pap anyway!)

And yeah I had cramps on and off for a few days after the IUI too...unless they really hurt or lots of blood don't worry too much, then you call the RE.
