Progesterone question

This is my third month on Clomid.  My progesterone level last month on Clomid 50mg was 7.  The Dr. increased my dosage to 100mg and put me on progesterone suppositories 100mg (1x per day).  This month my day 20 progesterone level was 35 and day 21 was 24.

I am on day 29 of my cycle 15dpo.  I tested this morning and got a BFN.  I am wondering when I STOP taking the suppositories.  When I called and asked the nurse she said to wait until next Saturday which would be cd36.  It just seems like that is a long time to wait.

TIA,

Kim

Re: Progesterone question

  • I'm kind of curious as to why the doctor would put you on progesterone support while on Clomid if they are only tracking your ovulating success via bloodwork.  It would seem to skew the results.   Do you know when you ovulated for sure (either via u/s, opks or charting) or are you assuming a cd14 ovulation?

  • That's kind of what I thought.  I think it's a little bit of false hope.  I wasn't sure if the suppositories would increase your numbers that much.  I do opks and had severe ovulation pains this cycle.  I got a positive opk on cd13 and cd14.  This is all through my ob.  I have an appointment with an RE on April 9th.  I wanted to stop this progesterone so that I start my period before going to him.  I know they do not want me to be on my cycle for the appointment.  If I wait until next Saturday to stop taking the progesterone, I will definately be on it.  This is so frustrating.
  • Yeah, get to the RE.  Your OB isn't handling this correctly, which is typical.  I could understand progesterone support if there was further monitoring via U/S, but the suppositories may be skewing the results.  If you had positive opks, then you probably o'd, which is good... but the quality of ovulation?  That's lost with the additional progesterone.  Even at 7 - you technically o'd, but the egg probably wasn't any good.  Are you having a follow-up with the OB next week?  If not, and you keep getting BFNs on hpts for the next couple days, I would probably just stop.  AF may break through on her own if you don't stop.

Why doesn't the RE want you to be on your cycle for the appt?  They do many many CD3 u/s and most of us are in the middle of AF for those appts.

  • When I was making the appointment with the RE, the nurse just wanted to make sure I wasn't on my cycle.  I'm not exactly sure why.  At this point I really don't care.  I am going to the appointment no matter what.  I am tired of the confusion and frustration.
  • I know how you feel.  You'll feel so much better after you see the RE.  You'll leave with a plan and that always helps.   The monitoring and testing you receive will be much more thorough.
