DH is Jeff (Jeffrey). We've played with the idea of naming a son after him (with different middle names--DH is Matthew, we'd use Stephen for a baby boy). We (ok, me) don't want to call him Jeff (too confusing) and Jeffrey is too formal for my taste. I like Jay. Is that too weird as a nn for Jeffrey?
Re: Is this a weird jump for a nickname?
I definitely think it works. ?If Margaret can go by Peggy and Richard can go by ***....Jeffrey can be Jay. ?:)
Edit: ?Stupid Nest. ?*** = Diiick?
(read it. you know you want to.)

I know you're probably set on using Jeffrey - But DH has the same first name as his father with different middle names and it still causes lots of problems. His family calls him by his middle name and then once out in the "real world" he started going by his (and his dad's name) Mark. It's terribly confusing just to hear stories in his family because I have to remind myself that mark=FIL in front of them. He's had credit issues and traffic ticket problems, you name it.
I feel like if you want to call him Jay, name him Jay. I know that comes from an Abigail/Abby mommy but I think of Abby as a childish nickname and she can go by her full name when she's older.
I actually do like that idea
