OMG...I'm freaking out...

I went into DD's room to open up her blinds and there were wasps in there.  I am freaking out right now...I just killed 4!!  I just called the people who spray our house and the soonest they can have someone here is Monday.  I'm going to be a nervous reck...I've been looking frantically everywhere to see where they could be getting in from and I don't see a nest anywhere.  I would die if one of my girls got bit or stung...I don't remember if wasps bite or sting.  If my newborn got stung, I would really freak out since we allergies to them in our family.  Ok...time for me to calm down.

  • Take a deep breath, but I'd be freaking out also!

  • They only sting if they feel threatened. And they can squeeze through tiny little holes. I am sure you will be fine but definetly have someone come look for the nest.

We had a couple of mystery wasps in our house last year. It only happened in the spring so it might be just an isolated incident. I think the wasps are more interested in trying to get outside than looking for someone to sting, but yeah they freak me out, too. I have an irrational fear of insects :)
  • Can you buy a crib tent (not sure exactly what these are called)? I know they can be used on PnP to keep out critters when you're outside, maybe you can use it inside to keep out the wasps. Scary!
  • Also, allergic reactions only happen the second time someone is stung. I'm allergic to tons of things and always have to carry an epi-pen. I've only been stung by a bee once so the next time is when I'll find out if I'm allergic.
I would think the odds of her getting stung twice are very low, although I'm sure you want to avoid any stings at all costs. Good luck.
  • Keep the door to that room shut - and you might want to wait to have anyone sleep in there until the exterminators have taken care of the wasps.  Sounds like you might have a nest in your attic or somewhere attached to your house right outside DD's room - and they're coming in through a tiny crack.  They sting, not bite.  Be careful - I would be so freaked out too, I am very bug phobic!
    Wheee!
