Pregnant after a Loss

Breech Baby

So I went for an US yesterday to check fluid/size and was told that everything looks great, then she mentioned that the baby is breech. I asked if that is a problem and she said no. I don't actually get to see my dr til next Friday & now I am kind of freaking out. I know that many healthy babies are born breech by c-sect and I know that I am only 23 weeks along but I don't know what the likelihood is that the baby will turn around & I'm terrified that if it does turn it will wrap the umbilical cord around it's neck. I am just wondering if most babies are breech at some point b/c they float around so much or is it unusual.

Re: Breech Baby

  • Don't worry yet! You still have plenty of time for baby to turn around. I've read some women on here that baby turned on its own as late as 35/36 weeks. Your baby still has a lot of room to move around right now, and she may already be head down, just was breech during the u/s. Hang in there!

  • Definitely way too early to worry.  Mine was both transverse & breech during the 2nd tri.  They are still small and little acrobats turning all over at that time.  An ultrasound at 34 weeks confirmed that mine is now head-down, so don't worry!

  • Don't worry... it is really  early still!!!  Most babies don't flip and go head down until late in pregnancy.

My baby didn't flip until right after 36 weeks!  And, she didn't "drop" until I was in labor and pushing as hard as I could!

  • My baby was breech at 26 weeks, head down at 28 weeks and breech again at 30 weeks. It's flipping all over the place. I wouldn't worry yet... I'm still banking on mine turning again before my next u/s.
  • It's WAY too early for you to worry.

25% of babies are still breech even at 32 weeks, and by full term, all but 3-4% will turn to vertex (head down).

  • My sister's baby didn't turn until 38 weeks, a week before he was born. Babies turn quite a bit during a pregnancy. I was also told at my 20 week appt. that my little girl was breech.
