Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Do you let your DC sleep in?

I've read the sleep books and they say to make sure your child wakes up at the same time every day...DD usually wakes at 6 but today she slept til 8!!  I couldn't bring myself to wake her up...plus I enjoyed the extra sleep!  Do you wake your LO to keep him/her on schedule?

Re: Do you let your DC sleep in?

  • I let her wake up whenever she is ready. Lately she has been getting up around 7:30 but she used to sleep til about 830 or so. If she sleeps later it does not effect her schedule.

  • don't ever wake a sleeping baby!  If they are sleeping it's because they need the rest...thats when they grow!!  Take the time for yourself to relax! Smile

  • we let her sleep in as long as she wants. Normally she wakes around 7:30. My little girl gets very cranky when she is woken up before she is ready to, and since I really don't want to deal with that I let her sleep.

This... if she sleeps in we sleep in!  its win/win!

  • It's never happened, my kids are very much creatures of habit, but if it ever did, you can bet your ass that I'd let them sleep in Smile

  • I let him sleep until he wakes up on his own.

However, during the week he goes to daycare 3 days and so I need to wake him then.  But when he can sleep in, I let him sleep as long as he wants.

  • He makes his own schedule. I don't wake him unless absolutely necessary, like a doc's appointment. He wakes up around the same time every day (between 7 and 8) on his own.

  • We're those awful parents that let her sleep in every day. She goes to bed anywhere between 8 and 9:30 and night and usually sleeps a solid 13 hours so she wakes up anywhere from 8:30am to 10:30am. I know there are people on here who think we shouldn't let her sleep that late, but I just can't justify waking her. Plus I am at work anyway so it's really my husband's call, but he works until midnight or 1am so he'd rather her sleep as late as possible so he can sleep too. Oh well. Tongue Tied

She's a good napper so it's not much of an issue...

  • Not any more. I used to, but there was always a price to pay (cranky baby, no naps, couldn't get to sleep the next night). The most I let him sleep in is about 30n - 45min.?
  • She is really pretty regular in what time she wakes up - between 6:30-7.  Today she slept til 7 and I consider that sleeping in!  If she would sleep later, I certainly wouldn't stop her, but we have been lucky enough that she has been STTN for the past week for a good 11 hours, so she'll wake up when she's ready to.
  • hail no -   I like them to get up w/in the same 1/2 hour and in 11 mos, I've only had to wake one a handful of times.
  • Week days: if she isn't up by a certain time I wake her up. We have to get out of the house so I need her to be ready when it is time to go.

Weekends: Unless we have something planned and have to be somewhere by a certain time we let her sleep in as long as she wants.

  • Normal is 6:30-7 and I'll let him sleep in until about 7:45-8. Anytime after that really messes with naps.

  • Yeah, I also have found that it doesn't affect her nap schedule, even if she wakes an hour late. I always let her sleep.

  • We NEVER wake DS up. We don't have to do daycare, so we don't have anything to get ready for in the morning. (I work days and DH works nights.) DS goes to bed around 7:30-8:00 each night, and wakes up anywhere from 7:30-9:00 the next morning. I figure if he's still sleeping, it's because he needs it, and I shouldn't be waking him from that.

  • I always let DD sleep. In fact, in 8.5 months, I've never woken her up. We don't have to be anywhere in the morning so I let her sleep since I figure she must need it.
