should i go to the party??

My best friend is having a b-day party tomorrow for her youngest son.  Her older son has been sick all week with a (high) fever and cough which is just starting to go away, but now mom is starting to feel sick.

Both DH & my mom feel i shouldnt go to the party.  They both feel that if i get sick i wont be able to take anything except tylenol and then i will have to miss work etc. They over all feel its a bad idea.

There is a part of me that agrees with them but the other part of me knows how much she wants me there and she will be upset if i dont go last min.

any thoughts??

  • Unfortunately germs are everywhere...if you typically have a strong immune system, you might think about going for a little bit. ?But otherwise, I wouldn't put yourself and baby at risk. ?Does she know you are pregnant? ?If so, she will totally understand. ?If she doesn't know...this might be a good time to tell her! ?GL :)

  • ultimately you have to do what you feel is right, but I will say this, if you are going to sick you are going to get sick. I just got over a sinus thing and I got to take more than just tylenol...does she know that you are expecting? if so maybe she would understand....
  • She knows i am expecting but she has a different view on kids and pregnancy than me..... i dunno i can already tell she will think thats silly and i am being over overprotective.  ugh! i sould just grow some you know what and tell her im not going.  i guess i just wonder if i am being over protective and silly

  • I think a good friend will understand that you can't go. ?There will be plenty more birthday's in the future! ?And if you do get sick, you will end up regreting it.?
  • Well, whether she thinks you are being overprotective or not-it is your choice. ?Like pp said, if you get sick, you will get sick. ?You can take things other than tylenol during pregnancy. ?I had a cold and took benedryl, mucinex, tylenol and dr said there are other things that are safe too. ?But...

The choice is yours! ?If she is that upset that you don't go, she is being silly-not you. ?

  • Tylenol isn't the only thing you can take. I have had that same cough/fever. Mine started about 3 weeks ago with a fever for the weekend. Then I got over the fever and got this stupid cough. The cough got to the point where it hurt in my tummy when I coughed, then my throat started getting sore. I finally went to the doctor about 2 1/2 weeks of the cough. I told the doctor multiple times that I'm pregnant and he said that not everything is harmful. I am able to take doctor perscribed cough syrup. It's really helped the last few days. I wish I hadn't been so pigheaded and gone to the doctor sooner. Take care of yourself. Try to get lots of sleep and vitamin C. Make sure you go to the doctor if you get this stupid cough.

  • Are you going to skip work everytime someone gets sick there?  I'd go to the party, just wash your hands frequently and don't touch your face without washing.

  • Sure, you may or may not get sick while pg, that doesn't mean that you need to purposely put yourself around sick contagious people.  If it's important to you then you should go (and wash your hands frequently), if not then you should just skip it.  GL.

  • depends how sick they are. i am a nanny and got a stomach virus where i couldnt keep anything down and it landed me in the hospital for 6 hrs with dehydration and contractions. others may think you are being rude but you need to do whats best for you and your baby.
