Neriya?

What do you think of Neriya for a little girl?  It means "light of God" and Riya would be her nickname.  Middle name Margaret after my mom's twin who died a couple days after birth.

Re: Neriya?

  • The other spelling is Neriah.  Which do you like better?  (Even if you hate both?)

I don't personally care for it much but I prefer this spelling a LOT more. I stared at your post for a minute just trying to decide how I liked the way Neriya looked. It just looks weird to me. I've never heard of this name but at least Neriah reminds me of names I do know like Mariah, Shania, etc.

  • Nms. I prefer the Neriah spelling over Neriya.

    This. ?

  • The name itself is NMS, but I like the spelling Neriah much better. I wasn't sure how to pronounce the name until I saw your second post, but having it spelled similar to Mariah helped.

  • I don't like it.??

  • I dont really like the name, and dont think it sounds right with Margaret.  But, I think you will have less problems with Neriah.
  • I like the second spelling better but I hate both.
  • I would pronounce Neriya and Neriah completely differently.

    Neriah would rhyme with Mariah.

I would say Neriya ner-i-ya with the 'ya' said the same way the ending of Tanya is said.

Neriah sounds a little better to me but I am not crazy about either.

    This.

However, I really like both names and spellings.

  • I definitely prefer Neriah. It sounds pretty, but no one will ever be able to spell her name.

  • I would pronounce Neriah and Neriya differently.  I prefer Neriah (both in sound and in look) but truthfully am not crazy about either.

The other thing I don't like is that Neriah seems awfully close to the "trendy" (but IMO horrible) name Nevaeh.

    What she said.

Plus, when I see names that look made up (sorry) I always try to read them backward in case there is some hidden meaning, like Nevaeh.  ::shudder::

  • i think it's pretty!  i have a friend with that name but she spells it "Nuria" which i think works too!
