What kind of nipple for cereal in BM?

DS has bad reflux and the doc said to add a 1 tbs of rice cereal to his bottle. I normally use slow flow but I am just wondering how thick it will be when I add the cereal and if I should use a different nipple. TIA

Re: What kind of nipple for cereal in BM?

  • your dr said to add cereal? wowzers. how much milk is he consuming in a feeding? It shouldnt thicken it up too much, just try the regular nipple he uses now, if its too hard just move one size up.

  • I had to do this for my DS when he was an infant.....I got a Y-cut nipple that let the thicker milk mixture come out more easily.  Or you can cut your own, using a razor blade that you sterilize first with a flame.
  • I add 1 tsp to her bottles (2.75-3oz) and use a medium flow nipple. Are you sure 1 tbsp? That seems like a lot, you have to watch for constipation.
  • Oh I just looked at the doctors note and it is 1 tsp. I will have to try a medium flow. Thanks!

  • We do 1.5 TBSP per 4-5oz BM. Any less doesn't work! I just cut the nipple hole with a razor blade, but I did ruin a few! I know Avent makes a Y cut I have to get- that's what bottles we use!
