DS won't take anything but WATER in his sippy.. and I mean anything. He shoves it away when there's milk in it (though he chugs it down in the bottle, no prob).. I picked today to start weaning to a sippy.. one feeding at a time. So, this last one was a total bust. He wouldn't take more than 1 sip. And acted like I was torturing him, shoving it away and whatnot. It'd be not so stressful if he was a great table-food eater, but he isn't. So at what point do I cave, if he's not getting the nutrition he needs? I hate it that I can't go cold turkey (bc he's not that easygoing of a kiddo), but yet if I try to eliminate 1 bottle at a time he's getting mixed messages... and likely one less bottle per day (which he needs, imo). HELP!
Re: Weaning is NOT GOING WELL. Help.
We're not there quite yet...this totally isn't even my board...but what the heck, I'll just give my opinion anyway!
Can you try to just offer it casually in addition to what you normally give him? Then maybe he will get used to it and you can start replacing your normal feedings? I don't know. DD seems to resist change so much that we will have to transition really slowly. Plus, she's also a crappy eater so I would be worried about her getting proper nutrition just like you are.
Good luck!
Can I ask what the urgency is regarding getting him off the bottle? I am not buying this perpetuated fear that Dr's are instilling in mothers about their babies and the negativity of a bottle at 366 days old.
Phoenix is 14 months. Sometimes he takes a cup, all day he takes a bottle, and he eats what he wants IF he feels like it. I'm not an advocate of forcing anything, especially at a very young and confusing age where I think proper nutrition is more important than delivery methods of said nutrition.
Calm down. Pack up the cups. revisit this in a few weeks.
