For starting Ferber tonight.. the problem is he won't fall asleep without the boob and I'm weaning him now due to severe allergies so he really needs to fall asleep on his own at this point. Sometimes I have to feed him 3-4 times in an hour or two period just to soothe him to sleep which is obviously overfeeding.
I know it's what is best for him but why do I feel like such a crappy parent who is going to do psychological damage to my baby? ![]()
Re: I feel like a horrible parent
thanks girls
DS is allergic to milk protein so I've been on a dairy free diet since he was 2 weeks old. It's been so rough because not only does he have the milk allergy but he is so sensitive to everything I eat, namely fruits and vegatables so I've been living off of a really unhealthy carb and meat diet since that is all he seems to tolerate. I just wanted to breastfeed so badly and the formula he needs to be on is $600 a month (Neocate) so I wanted to breastfeed as long as possible. I'm weaning him now and hope to have him completely weaned by 6 months which I'm pretty proud of. He does much better on the Neocate then with breastmilk since nothing can aggravate his sensitivies

Why do you have to do Ferber? Just use a pacifer or let him suck on your finger or something. Letting him CIO and weaning from the breast are completely separate situations.
And I still don't know why people follow this guy if they feel terrible about it. You should feel good about your choices!
I've tried everything else and spent a small fortune buying every pacifier brand known to man.. he won't take anything as of it. He's a stubborn child! The lack of sleep is causing him to be grumpy all day so I know I need to do something else since nothing is working.

Congrats on making it to 6 months!! This is quite an accomplishment. My DD also hates most of the popular pacis. She only likes the cheapo decorative ones from Target that say "I love Mommy." They were too big for her to start, but she still wanted them.
DD often nurses to sleep, but she's been receptive to the paci. Sorry it didn't work for you.
