how much am i looking to spend if i knit? my friend thinks it's expensive. i countered with my falling-by-the-wayside hobby of scrapbooking. more or less expensive?
It doesn't have to be expensive...but it gets there really, really quickly.
Especially if you're doing a project that needs more than one skein, and you don't know how much of one dye lot is there, and then you don't remember to return the unused stuff, or you decide you love it so much that you want to use it for another project...
I'm sure it could be reasonable. I'm just not the right person to ask if you want that to happen
It can be, but it doesn't have to be. The better yarn is more expensive, but it knits up so much nicer than acrylic. You can get good deals on it as well. What do you plan on knitting? Soakers usually only take one skein and longies take less than two most of the time I would think. Blankets take considerably more!
Depends on how much you do it and what you want to knit. If you only want to knit with acrylic from Wal-Mart, you won't spend too much. If you want to make a gorgeous sweater out of cashmere, you will spend hundreds.
From what I've learned: if you begin to love knitting, you will spend a lot of money on it. A LOT. DH just told me that we'll be "even" after he's spent the same amount on scuba diving as I've spent on knitting. So, yes, I've spent more on mostly yarn than DH has spent on scuba diving (which seems like it would be more expensive).
Re: be honest - how expensive?
It's like CDs.
