2nd Trimester

When did your pregnancy feel real?

Right now, I feel like I am so sick and will never hold my baby.  I know I will in about 6 months, but it still seems weird.  I feel like it's not real when I think about having a baby that soon.

When did everything feel real for you?  I think it may seem more real once we know the sex and have a name so we can call the baby that instead of just baby.

I was like this with my wedding (it didn't seem real until a few weeks after) as well so I shouldn't be surprised with how I feel.

Re: When did your pregnancy feel real?

  • it still doesn't feel real to me.

  • A couple weeks ago we had our V-day and DH felt her move for the first time all within a few days.

Add that to painting the nursery last weekend, and it's really starting to feel real.

  • For me, it was when I really started to feel her moving around, and knew without a doubt that it was her. Then it was like - oh wow, there really is a person inside of me making a ruckus!
  • ::waves to amy::

It felt really to me after I had my 17 week u/s & found out the sex.  After that we started buying things & my belly really started to pop.  Once I started feeling big kicks at around 18 weeks that's when I was like "wow... there really is a little person in there!!"

  • It didn't start to feel free for me until a couple of weeks ago. I could feel my uterus (doc showed me how) and started getting a little belly. And our big u/s is Monday so that makes it more exciting as well.

When I was in my first tri I was too busy trying not to get sick to really think about anything else.

It'll hit you one day Amy.. Big Smile

  • Mine still doesn't feel real, but I am starting to get a bit of belly, so I think it will seem more real soon.  At least I that is what I am hoping!
  • It felt real to me the first time I felt him kick me.  It is taking DH a little longer for it to feel real I think.  He knows it's happening and he has watched all the u/s's and been to all the dr. appointments but I think he is patiently waiting to feel him kick
  • Now that I know it'a girl it feels real. I have felt her move but she was still "the baby". Now she is Tessa. It's a lot more real now.
  • Once we found out the sex, and I started feeling him squirming around, it definitely started to feel much more real!
  • still not feeling too real yet - and that is after 7 u/s's.

I am *just* starting to barely show... so that is making it a bit more real.

Yay.  You are finally starting to show!  My mom said it felt real for her when they cut her open and pulled me out.

  • I think that when I was having my big u/s at 19wks it all of a sudden became very real.  Right around then was when I first felt him moving around too.  So exciting!
  • It still feels unreal, but maybe a couple of weeks ago it started to sink in.?

Right now, the only time it feels real is at my doctor's appointments when we hear the heartbeat, or when we've had ultrasounds.  I think when I start feeling the baby move, it will seem more real...and since patience is not a virtue I possess, I hope I can feel the movement, really, really soon!

  • It still doesn't feel real to me. I'm hoping that once I feel the baby kick and/or I start to show it'll all of a sudden hit me.

  • It is so refreshing to see that some still don't feel like it is "real".  I am 18 weeks and think i am starting to feel him/her move around.  We have our big U/S on Wednesday, and I think that may be when it is really"real" to me.  I think it is b/c it took us 13 months to get pregnant, and I am over 30.  I have wanted this for so long you know?
  • For some reason it was last night, when we brought home the dresser and put together the crib.  :)
  • It felt real to me at my 12 week u/s. It wasn't just a little bean anymore, it was an actual baby, jumping around and sucking it's thumb! It was amazing and our happiest moment so far since the BFP.
  • probably after our first u/s at 9 weeks...which is so early, but seeing him on the screen really made it real for me.
  • For me it was when we found out its a girl and can now call her by her name.  For some reason after that it just clicked.

  • It started to feel pretty real when he started moving at around 18w.  Then it seemed a lot more real after our big u/s at 21w.  It just keeps getting more and more real now...  Hang in there!

  • It still doesn't feel real to me, even though I feel it kick all the time. For some reason, I don't constantly make the connection between the kicks and the fact that my baby is making them. Of course I know its the baby, and I'll even tell DH when it's happening, but I think I'm still in shock that "when we have a baby" is actually NOW!
  • For us it's been a process, with each milestone giving a little more "reality" to the pregnancy.

First two lines on a test. Then seeing a flickering heartbeat on a little bean. Then seeing a squirmy baby who actually looked like a baby, with a head and arms and legs and buddha belly. Then finding out she's a girl. Each step has made it all more real. And I imagine this will continue. Feeling her kick for the first time, etc.

    Dear Bump: You suck.
  • I was exactly where you were about it not being real until I had to have an amnio at 19 weeks.  It became very real then. Once you start to feel the baby move it does help.
  • In some ways it STILL doesn't feel real - it all feels theortical. But the feeling I described to people after my big U/S last week was that I went from knowing I was pregnant to knowing I was having a baby, if that makes sense.

All my many friends who have kids say it isn't really real until they arrive, and even then it can still be a little unreal for a few days. It does feel like about a million years from my BFP at this point and I'm JUST starting to pop, so maybe I'll feel differently in a few weeks (I do feel the baby move a lot).
