Clomid Newbie

I'm sorry if this has been asked numerous times in the past but I'm going to be put on Clomid next Thursday and just wanted some thoughts about it.

Also I noticed that being on Clomid, you have to be monitored and what does that entail?

Thank you in advance!

Re: Clomid Newbie

  • Why are you being put on clomid? Are you seeing an RE or OB?

Have you had a HSG and have your husband had an SA?

On clomid you should have an u/s around cd12 to check your follies and a progesterone test at 7 dpo.

    Good Luck!

  • Like the pp said you def. need to have had all your testing done before starting clomid.

Not all people get u/s on cd 12, I get mine on cd 14 and start opk's on cd 11.

  • I'm seeing an RE.  He recommends that I be put on Clomid since I've unsuccessfully gotten pregnant on my own for the past year.  I've had bloodwork done last year and initially two of them came back with relatively high FSH & LH then once AF showed up, everything was in its right place.  Last June I was diagnosed with Premature Ovarian Failure and received DNA bloodwork which came out with me having Triple X so I saw a geneticist in December.  I waited awhile before I sought a second opinion and he has looked over my records and spoken to the geneticist to find out the percentage of passing my Triple X and they summed it up that it's rather unpredictable and the risk being low.  I told him my goal was to try to conceive on my own so Thursday will be spent I guess getting prodded again.  I had an ultrasound back in June.

My husband's sperm has never been tested because back in June they summed up that I had POF since AF had been absent for 3 months and it didn't show up till August.  I was told back then the only options were adoption or donor egg.  It's been a rollercoaster ride.

  • definitely get your DH a SA as soon as possible...  b/c ovulating all of the eggs in the world will be useless if there's no good sperm to greet them.   i would want to know those numbers BEFORE starting Clomid (or any drug that could cause you to ovulate more than one egg), because that tells you a lot more about your chances for high order multiples.

I am monitored on Clomid.    I had CD3 bloodwork and u/s (baseline to check for cysts and your antral folical count), and then CD11 b/w and u/s (to check my follie development and lining), and then CD 12 b/w and u/s (based on my CD11 results, my doctor wanted to see me again the next day).

will you be using Ovidrel or another ovulation trigger?    if not, have you been told to use OPKs for TI?

Brought to you by IVF, ICSI, limited fert, and oocyte cryopreservation.
